Rosehill horse racing tips
Race 1. (12:30) Schweppes Darby Munro Stakes (1200m)
#1 – Cosmic Force @ $2.90 – Bet Now
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained three-year-old has class on his side and he should prove tough to hold out. He’s a son of Deep Field that did well to run second last start.
The winner of over $480,000, Cosmic Force owns three wins and four second placings from only nine starts. That’s a nice record to have at this stage of his career, and he hasn’t had the best of luck throughout his career.
Drawing barrier 12 is a negative, but Glen Boss takes the ride and he should be able to produce a good result for punters.
If there’s going to be a danger to Cosmic Force, it could come from Dawn Passage. The classy colt is unbeaten from two fresh up starts, and the Waterhouse/Bott team is confident of his chances.
His last two runs were a touch off, but the break would have done him so good. Keep in safe in selections, but put Cosmic Force on top.
Race 2. (13:10) Iron Jack N.E. Manion Cup (2400m)
#7 – Mugatoo @ $2.15 – Bet Now
Mugatoo has been super-impressive since arriving in Australia and his winning roll could continue. The Kris Lees-trained stayer scored in his Australian debut at Randwick before posting a win at Canberra last start.
He rises up in class for this run, but the former European is a stayer on the rise and he could be contesting a Sydney Cup in a few weeks’ time.
It looks like the perfect stepping stone to that race and we’re not surprised by the $2.15 odds opened by bookmakers. That price could remain steady throughout the week.
Punters should be wary of Young Rascal. He’s a European runner for Willie Haggas, which owns five wins from 10 starts.
His most recent came at Group 1 level in Sha Tin, so the class is there. At his best, he would be too good for this field, but he’s first up under different circumstances.
Put both Mugatoo and Young Rascal into your selections.
Race 3. (13:45) Cellarbrations Epona Stakes (1900m)
#3 – Paint the Town Two @ $6.50 – Bet Now
Value is with Paint the Town Two, which is in career-best form. The Stuart Laming-trained five-year-old has won three of her four starts this preparation, including a narrow victory at Flemington last start.
It will be her first run at Randwick, which is the only negative, but she’s an adaptable type that could frank the form of the Victorians.
Having James McDonald helps her chances, as he’s riding better than anyone else at the moment. There’s not much between many in this field and punters are getting good value with this runner.
Another runner that could figure in the finish is Another Dollar at $15. The Chris Waller-trained runner hasn’t been showing her best form this season, but she’s better than that.
The five-year-old mare is a winner of almost $500,000, and that can’t be overlooked at this level. The odds are good enough to include as a value chance.
Race 9. (17:45) Tab Birthday Card Stakes (1200m)
#2 – Soothing @ $5.50 – Bet Now
It’s a wide-open field for the last race on the card, where Soothing could be too good for them. The James Cummings-trained mare is a professional winner of seven from 18 starts, and she has been primed with a trial run at Rosehill.
Her most recent effort came at Flemington when winning during the Melbourne Spring Carnival, so she has class on her side and her fresh-up record reads well.
Her only run at Randwick resulted in a win and with McDonald riding, we’re confident of her chances.
Include Grey Shadow into the mix. The grey mare rarely runs a bad race and the odds of $14 are worth taking.
