Australians have a great record at the Royal Ascot meeting.
Champion sprinters such as Choisir, Miss Andretti, Scenic Blast, Takeover Target and Black Caviar all made the long journey and returned home victorious.
Last year, Nature Strip became one of the most prolific of them when he brained his rivals in the King’s Stand Stakes on the straight course.
This year, Australia will be represented by four horses seeking glory at the prestigious meeting.
We have looked at each one of them.

G1 King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) – 12:40AM Tuesday (AEST)
Coolangatta
Odds: $3.60
Trainers: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace.
Jockey: James McDonald.
This truly special filly was put away after winning February’s G1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) down the Flemington straight course with a Royal Ascot tilt firmly in her connections’ sights.
Coolangatta showed exceptional ability from the beginning of her career when she saluted in the G3 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on debut. She took that form to Queensland to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic before placing third in the G1 Golden Slipper in Sydney.
After winning the G1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley as a three-year-old last spring, she returned to win the Lightning first-up ahead of new sprinting sensation, I Wish I Win.
James McDonald returns to the saddle for the first time since her Golden Slipper placing and could not have been more pleased with her work in the lead-up to this race.
At the time of writing, Coolangatta was the second favourite behind exceptional local mare, Highfield Princess, who will be extremely hard to beat. However, on her best efforts, Coolangatta is more than good enough to become the sixth Australian to win this race, and the first three-year-old filly since Lady Aurelia in 2017.

Cannonball
Odds: $9
Trainers: Peter & Paul Snowden.
Jockey: Brett Prebble.
Cannonball’s name is befitting of the racehorse. A speedy son of Capitalist, the three-year-old colt really hit his straps during this year’s Autumn Carnival in Sydney.
After running fourth in the $1 million Golden Gift at his first preparation in the care of Anthony and Sam Freedman, he switched to Melbourne to tackle some easier assignments and recorded his first two victories.
After struggling somewhat during the early part of his early three-year-old season, connections made the decision to send the colt to the Snowden stable.
The change of scenery did him a world of good, taking the G3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill, blitzing his rivals from in front. He was then a little luckless when third in the G1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill the following start.
His only previous effort down a straight track was a close-up third to Giga Kick and Buenos Noches in the G2 Danehill Stakes (1100m) at Flemington in October. The former went on to win The TAB Everest.
His Randwick trial before embarking on his overseas adventure suggests he is back better than ever, and co-trained Peter Snowden says the horse has thrived since arriving in the UK.

G1 Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Stakes (1200m) – 1:20AM Sunday (AEST)
Artorius
Odds: $3.80
Trainers: Anthony & Sam Freedman.
Jockey: James McDonald.
Artorius boasts something the other Australians at the Royal meeting don’t: experience. The striking son of Flying Artie makes his second trip across the pond in 2023, after two Group 1 placings in the UK last year.
Once more, the 2021 G1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) winner will contest the Jubilee Stakes over six furlongs. Last year, after a sluggish getaway, Artorius picked his way through the field to run a slashing third behind Naval Crown. He would later go on to turn in a similar effort in the G1 July Cup over the same distance at Newmarket.
In the time since, the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained entire has added another Group 1 victory to his resume, winning the Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick first-up under Zac Purton. He then found a few traffic issues when placed fourth in the G1 George Ryder (1500m) at Rosehill a fortnight later.
Returns to this race first-up this year and gains the services of champion jockey James McDonald. Expect him to try and ride the valuable stallion prospect closer to the speed this year, which should give him an even greater winning chance. And, with experience on his side, the odds on-offer look attractive for punters looking to bet into the race.

The Astrologist
Odds: $26
Trainers: Leon & Troy Corstens.
Jockey: Damian Lane.
A more honest and consistent racehorse you’d struggle to find. The Astrologist, who has banked more than $2 million in prizemoney, lines up for his 39th race start in the Jubilee. It has been a long campaign for the now six-year-old son of Zoustar, having been up since late February.
He struggled a touch during the autumn in Australia, before making a terrific overseas debut with second at Meydan (Dubai) over 1200m in March. He then gained the services of renowned jockey Ryan Moore in the G2 Duke Of Clipper Stakes (1207m) at York, but finished more than 7L off the winner.
He bounced back somewhat to finish second n the G3 John Of Gaunt Stakes (1442m) at Haydock last start, again with the services of Ryan Moore. One of Australia’s leading jockeys Damian Lane takes the ride this time around.
Although he has gone close twice on his overseas adventure, he would need to run a new career peak to be going close in a race like this. That would see him need to improve many lengths on his current best, which came when he won The Gold Rush (1400m) at Ascot last December.
