Russell Balding Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Private Eye ($7.50)
He hit the line well enough last time out and he’s good enough to handle this field. He will get back, so he could storm home.
(2) King of Sparta (Best Roughie – $10.00)
Punters get nice odds for a strong gelding, who has yet to fire at Rosehill, but there is improvement to come.
The son of I Am Invincible gets all favours from the draw and he should settle on the speed and give a good kick.
(3) Bella Nipotina (Best Bet – $2.50)
The Everest winner couldn’t have been more impressive at Randwick, and she’s the worthy favourite.
She opened at $2.45 before drifting a touch, but we’re not worried by the slight drift. Barrier four and Craig Williams helps, so there are no excuses.
Take the odds and include her in multis.
(4) Sunshine in Paris (Best Each Way – $5.50)
She hit the line nicely when running fifth in The Everest, and she has a big win coming shortly.
The five-year-old mare by Invader owns two wins from three starts at Rosehill, so this is her favourite track.
She will need cover from the draw, but watch her sprinting late.
(5) Lady Laguna ($16.00)
She owns two wins and two placings from five starts at Rosehill, and her form at the distance bodes well.
The five-year-old mare has needed two runs back from a spell, but she will need to be good to handle this field.
(6) Mazu ($12.00)
He needs a wet track to show his best, but he has been around the mark this preparation. He’s good enough win this race at double-figure odds.
(7) Phearson ($61.00)
His best form comes over the distance with six starts for three wins and three placings. However, we don’t rate him as a Group 1 type.
Save him for another day.
(8) Coal Crusher ($18.00)
His second placing at Randwick behind Overpass was a nice effort, but we can’t see him repeating that.
He will head forward, but we would back him in an easier race.
(9) Tamerlane ($23.00)
The seven-year-old is a solid fresh up performer, and he owns a win and five placings at Rosehill.
He’s a 10-time winner overall, but there are some smart types in this race, so we’re leaving him out.
(10) Rocketing By ($101.00)
His best days are behind him, hence the odds.
(11) Flying Crazy ($151.00)
Fresh up form doesn’t bode well and he’s looking for something much easier.
(12) I Am Me ($9.00)
Disappointing in The Everest, but that run was too bad to be true. We expect her to bounce back with only 55kg on her back.
