Sandown horse racing tips

Race 1. (12:10) Tobin Bros Celebrating BM90 (1000m)

#3 – How Womantic – Bet @ Sportsbet

How Womantic is a proven winner fresh up, and although she didn’t fire in four starts last campaign, she could put that behind her.

The five-year-old has yet to race at Sandown or over this distance, but she is a solid sprinter who will appreciate the 1.5kg coming off her back.

Barrier eight is the only concern, but she has pace to fire up.

Race 2. (12:45) Ive Print BM78 (1400m)

#15 – Mimi’s Award – Bet @ Sportsbet

The four-year-old mare owns three wins and three second placings from six starts, so she has made a terrific start to her career.

Her best form has come over longer distances, but she has finished second twice over 1400m, so it’s not a huge concern.

The South Australian Oaks winner is all class, so include her in selections.

Race 3. (13:20) Tile Importer Handicap (1400m)

#2 – Sandy Prince – Bet @ Sportsbet

Sandy Prince is another runner that has yet to finish worse than second from six career starts.

The Hayes-trained three-year-old won at Sandown by 2.3 lengths two back before running second behind Forgot You at Moonee Valley.

His form stacks up beautifully and getting the inside won’t cause him any concern.

Race 4. (13:55) Jim Moloney Stakes (1400m)

#2 – Zouzarella @ $2.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Zouzarella is unbeaten after two starts and the three-year-old filly has defied a betting drift on both occasions.

The Freedman-trained daughter of Zoustar paid $7 on debut after opening as favourite and $13 last start, which was an incredible price.

Bookmakers aren’t making the same mistake again, so put her on top in a tough field.

Race 5. (14:30) Ladbrokes Sandown Stakes (1500m)

#2 – Elephant @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Elephant lost no admirers when finishing second behind Superstorm at Moonee Valley last start. The Kiwi didn’t fully handle the track, so Sandown is right up his alley.

It ended his five-start winning streak, but the son of Shocking looks ready to get back into business.

Beating Cherry Tortoni won’t be easy, but we have faith in Elephant.

Race 6. (15:05) The Big Screen Company Handicap (1800m)

#5 – Floating Artist – Bet @ Sportsbet

Floating Artist looks like a potential cups contender following two wins at The Valley and Flemington.

The six-year-old son of Nathaniel didn’t fire at his first Australian start, but he has since recorded wins over Coolth and Defibrillate.

1.5kg comes off his back and we would be surprised if he didn’t figure in the finish.

Race 8. (16:25) Beck Probuild Testa Rossa Stakes (1300m)

#1 – So Si Bon – Bet @ Sportsbet

Class is with So Si Bon, who is a previous winner fresh up and he shouldn’t be overlooked in this company.

The eight-year-old gelding is also a previous winner at Sandown from only three attempts, so he could easily handle this field.

He’s pushing for $2 million in stakes, so we can’t leave him off our ticket.

Race 9. (17:05) Evergreen Turf BM84 (1800m)

#5 – Khoekhoe – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Matt Cumani-trained gelding doesn’t have the best form coming into this race, but he has finished behind the likes of Harbour Views, Senor Toba and Explosive Jack.

He does his best racing over this distance with a win and a placing, so the only thing going against him is the wide draw. However, he should find a good spot in running over this distance.

Due to his form, punters could get value odds on race day.
