Sandown Racing Tips for Wednesday, September 9th 2026

The Chautauqua Stakes has been transferred to this midweek meeting, and that’s the focus of Wednesday’s card, which will be run on a rain-affected track. The Group 3 feature highlights a maximum 10-race meeting, where we have homed in on a couple of runners in particular who will appreciate the heavy track conditions in Melbourne.

Money has come for Simply Steffi, who had mixed form during her first preparation, but it included a quality win at Cranbourne two starts ago.

The Clinton McDonald-trained filly then finished fifth behind Medicinal at Flemington at Group 3 level, so she’ll be better in this company.

3kg comes off, dropping her to 52kg, so she’s a good bet.

Stake: 2 Units

Regal Ambition ran second behind Tolaga Bay on debut, who has since won a tough race up in grade.

The three-year-old filly by Palace Pier should come back from a spell with a good run, and we’re not surprised by the money coming for her.

Punters should expect the $3.60 to firm on race day.

Punters get each-way odds for Parvati Party, who looks to bounce back from an eighth at Sandown last time out.

The seven-year-old mare by Complacent is a six-time winner overall, so the class is there, and two of those wins have come on heavy surfaces.

We expect a much better run here, so take the current odds.

Shooting for three consecutive wins is Gold Chariot, who won at Pakenham Synthetic before winning at Sandown last time out.

The four-year-old son of Circus Maximus owns two wins and two placings from five starts overall, so he has a bright future.

Blake Shinn is riding well, which adds to our confidence levels.

Tales of Time opened at $2.25 before drifting, but we expect money to come for him on race day.

The three-year-old colt by Pinatubo ran second on debut at Flemington behind Tornado Valley before breaking maidens at $1.18 at Werribee.

He’s a quality colt, and there is no reason why he won’t handle the track conditions.

We’re taking the big odds for Egerton, who has good fresh up form with three starts for a win and a placing.

The seven-year-old mare by Your Song has better form on good tracks, but she runs well at the distance, and barrier four is ideal.

Given the odds, she is worth including in horse racing picks.

Persian Spirit ran well for second behind Shadhavar last time out at Caulfield, which is the best form guide for this race.

The Symon Wilde-trained mare has struggled to win races recently, but she is a six-time winner overall, and she won her only start on a heavy surface.

54.5kg is ideal, so she should be competitive.

We were keen on Changing Colours last Saturday, and there is no reason to jump off her back.

She is having a great campaign after scoring wins at Flemington and Caulfield, and her professionalism has jumped off the page.

Her odds touched $1.90, so the $2.05 is a fair price from bookmakers.

Mystery ‘N’ Drama isn’t an easy runner to back after two poor runs this prep, but we’re giving her another chance.

The four-year-old daughter of Lucky Vega won her only start at Sandown, and she placed at her only start on a heavy surface.

She has drawn wide, but that could be the place to be come Race 9.

Stake: 1 Unit

Buccleuch scored an impressive win at Sandown last time out when leading and kicking clear to score by 4.5 lengths.

That was a dominant performance, and the four-year-old son of Peltzer could improve his record to five wins from nine starts on Wednesday.

Look for him to cross the field and give punters a sight.
