Sha Tin horse racing tips

Race 1. (16:00) D B Pin C4 Handicap (1000m)

#1 – Island Shine – Bet @ Sportsbet

Island Shine didn’t fire fresh up but punters should get value odds and we like his chances of bouncing back.

The six-year-old son of Darci Brahma owns three wins and 10 placings from 30 starts, so he’s never too far away from the mark.

Include him in selections to get the day started with a bang.

Race 2. (16:30) Able Friend C2 Handicap (1400m)

#9 – Setanta – Bet @ Sportsbet

Setanta gets in with a light weight and the four-year-old gelding should go close to this field.

The son of Fastnet Rock finished 1.6 lengths behind the winner fresh up and he’ll be better for the run.

He’s a former Australian who won at Eagle Farm in stakes company last June, so the class is there and that could show up in Hong Kong.

Race 4. (17:30) Helene Paragon C4 Handicap (1400m)

#4 – Millennium Falcon – Bet @ Sportsbet

The five-year-old son of Charm Spirit only owns one win from 10 starts, but we expect him to have a big season.

He scored his maiden win two starts back at Sha Tin and followed it up with a second placing behind Kasi Farasi, which should be a good form guide.

Having Zac Purton in the saddle is a bonus and he could pay generous odds with bookmakers.

Race 5. (18:00) Aerovelocity C3 Handicap (1200m)

#6 – Excellent Daddy – Bet @ Sportsbet

Excellent Daddy won earlier this preparation before rattling off three consecutive fourths. He hasn’t been far from the winner, so the runs have been solid.

The five-year-old son of Toorak Toff is always well-favoured with bookmakers and we think he’ll have support on race day.

It’s another good ride for Purton and he could have a big day.

Race 6. (18:35) Giant Treasure C4 Handicap (1800m)

#10 – Red Elysees – Bet @ Sportsbet

The experienced nine-year-old could turn back the clock with an overdue win after back-to-back placings.

He finished third at Sha Tin before going one better last time out, and the addition of Joao Moreira in the saddle could get him over the line.

Barrier two is ideal and the old boy could win.

Race 8. (19:35) Peniaphobia C4 Handicap (1200m)

#2 – Pins Prince – Bet @ Sportsbet

Pins Prince won on debut at Sha Tin before rising in grade and running three solid races.

The four-year-old son of Pins finished second behind Millennium Falcon before running fourth behind Kasi Farasi, so the form checks out.

Getting the inside draw is ideal and Moreira takes the ride, so everything points towards a big effort.

Race 9. (20:10) Seasons Bloom C3 Handicap (2000m)

#3 – Winning Dragon – Bet @ Sportsbet

Winning Dragon is a four-time winner from seven starts and he was much better last time out.

The four-year-old didn’t show much in his Hong Kong debut, but he was only 3.5 lengths behind them last start and that was encouraging.

There has been solid early betting support and he gets the inside draw.

Race 10. (20:45) Beat the Clock C3 Handicap (1400m)

#7 – Prime Minister – Bet @ Sportsbet

Prime Minister comes off a win at Sha Tin and he’s good enough to go back-to-back.

The six-year-old son of Makfi is a five-time winner from 16 starts and the only worry is drawing barrier 14.

Despite drawing wide, we like his chances of figuring in the finish.
