Race 1. (15:00) Hwamei C4 Handicap (1800m)
#3 – Crown Avenue – Bet Now
Showed its consistency last season when running four consecutive placings.
The Yip-trained runner ran at big odds for most of last campaign and continued to impress with some solid efforts.
Zac Purton is a key booking and it’ll start much shorter in the betting this time around.
Race 2. (15:30) Lark C4 Handicap (1650m)
#8 – Good Runners Way – Bet Now
The Kiwi-bred runner is coming off a good win on this track last start when scoring by a nose.
That win should hold him in good stead for this and he has always been well-backed to win and this is no different.
Most of the early money has come for Good Runners Way and with only 53kg on his back, he must be tough to beat.
Race 3. (16:00) Magpie C5 Handicap (1600m)
#5 – Majestic Endeavour – Bet Now
Punters are getting good odds for this runner, which does need to turn around some moderate recent form.
The Caspar Fownes-trained runner hasn’t had the best of luck but with Zac Purton in the saddle here, that could change.
There’s not much between this field top to bottom and the odds on offer are attractive. Could start at double-figure odds.
Race 4. (16:30) Shrike C5 Handicap (1400m)
#8 – Big Bully – Bet Now
Looked good last season when placing at its last three races. Resumed at Sha Tin last week and ran nicely for fifth as a $3.30 chance.
Punters should get better odds here for the David Hall-trained runner and it’s going to get every chance off an inside draw.
Doesn’t have good second-up form but this race is there for the taking.
Race 5. (17:00) The Fakei Cup (1200m)
#8 – California Gungho – Bet Now
Comes into this having scored nicely on this track last start and that form is likely going to stack up nicely for this.
The Tony Cruz-trained runner should get every chance from barrier five and with only 52.5kg on his back, he’ll be tough to beat.
Joao Moreira is the man to ride and he should ensure a good trip in transit.
Race 6. (17:35) Sunbird C4 Handicap (1200m)
#13 – Monkey Jewellery – Bet Now
Owns a stack of ability and showed that when winning his final race of the season.
The John Size-trained runner scored by a half-length on this track on July 14 and he looks a top chance in this race.
Has been well-backed in early markets and he’s likely to start as the firm favourite.
Race 7. (18:05) The Chinese Recreation Club C4 (1400m)
#4 – King’s Race – Bet Now
Did enough on debut when running fourth behind Great Treasure and that form should stack up nicely going forward.
His lack of experience could count against him but he did enough to suggest a win wouldn’t be too far away.
Bookmakers are respecting his chances and that’s a good sign.
Race 8. (18:35) Swallow C3 Handicap (1650m)
#1 – Buddies – Bet Now
Buddies will have some punting buddies after looking good last season. He scored two wins from his last four starts and he could progress through the grades.
John Moore lines up the talented type which isn’t the most consistent but his best form would see him winning this.
Carries 60.5kg with Purton riding but stick with him.
Race 9. (19:10) Tailorbird C2 Handicap (1200m)
#4 – Racing Fighter – Bet Now
Racing Fighter is shooting for three consecutive wins after winning twice before the season ended.
The Yip-trained runner scored by a nose last start when beating the talented California Whip and he could fire up here.
Didn’t run well fresh last campaign but he has improved and should kick off his campaign well.
Race 10. (19:45) Woodpecker C3 Handicap (1400m)
#11 – Circuit Hassler – Bet Now
Circuit Hassler looks a nice chance at odds in the last. The Cruz-trainer runner ran a good second placing two starts back and he could fire fresh up.
He gets the benefit of having a world class rider in the saddle and this distance looks an ideal starting point.
Goes close at each-way odds.
