He was a noted drifter last time out, but that didn’t concern him. It was a strong staying win, and it bodes well for the South Australian Derby.
We’re happy to include him in picks at the odds.
2. Impulsive Reaction @ $31.00
Two wins from four starts, but this is a step up in class. We’re not sure if he’s good enough to handle Group 1 racing just yet.
3. Kaye Jaye @ $14.00
Nothing wrong with running fourth in the ATC Derby, which is an excellent form guide for this race.
He is good enough to run in the first four, so include him in picks.
4. Autumn Mystery @ $51.00
His form this preparation has been very disappointing after showing potential in the spring. He would need to find a few lengths.
5. Savisanta @ $46.00
Disappointing last time out when running down the track, so we can’t include him based on that effort.
6. Geneva @ $35.00
A Kiwi runner coming off a win at Trentham. It’s hard to line up NZ form, and although they breed good stayers, he’s not one of their best 3YO stayers coming across the Tasman.
7. Amazake @ $18.00
Yet to win from nine starts, but he hasn’t been too far away from the prize. A potential first four chance with luck from a wide draw.
8. Engine of War @ $8.50
He can be one-paced at times, but he will see out the distance. Working his way towards a good effort, and it could come here.
There has been solid money for him throughout the week, which is a positive sign.
9. Flying Brant @ $201.00
Never too far away from the prize, but he hasn’t faced tough fields. Big odds for a reason.
10. Arabian Prince @ $26.00
A winner at Kilmore before finishing second behind Single Choice. That’s a solid form guide, but he needs to improve on it.
11. Cannae @ $41.00
This stable knows how to train staying winners, and with Craig Williams riding, he could be a first four chance with luck in running.
Given the odds, we’re happy to include him in picks.
12. Wigmore @ $46.00
Recent efforts have been only fair, so 3-4 lengths are needed to make him a winning threat.
13. Strictly Business @ $20.00
The VRC Oaks winner who hasn’t returned from a spell with much. Disappointing, and that Oaks-winning campaign might have taken too much out of her.
14. After Summer (Best Each Way) @ $6.00
Second behind Belle Cheval before running third in the ATC Oaks. That’s a good form guide, and the wide draw isn’t much of a concern.
The wide barrier isn’t a concern over this distance, and she should be fighting out the finish.
15. Silvasista @ $6.00
The VRC St Leger winner on Monday. The quick back-up won’t be easy, but she’s a tough customer, and there has been betting support.
It’s tough to leave her out, so we’re happy to include her in South Australian Derby picks.
16. Kazaru @ $51.00
She looked good earlier this preparation, but her form since hasn’t been great. Happy to leave her out.
17. Accidental Bid (Best Bet) @ $3.10
The former European is unbeaten in two starts in Australia, including a whopping 7.8-length win at Pakenham last time out.
The three-year-old colt looks set for a big run at Group 1 level, and the rise in distance only helps his chances of winning.
He needs a scratching to make the field, but he should get a run.
18. Lunar Force @ $81.00
A winner on debut but his form since hasn’t included a win. Likely to be outclassed.
19. Shotaro @ $251.00
Big odds and rightfully so. Comes off a win, but the class wasn’t strong.
20. Borchard @ $301.00
It would be a big upset at massive odds.
