The Spring Champion Stakes is always a wide-open Group 1 for three-year-olds and a cracking field is on show this Saturday at Randwick.
Punters are having a tough time picking out a clear front runner but we have done the form to find our best bet, best each way and best roughie for the Group 1 feature.

Spring Champion Stakes 2018 Form Guide & Tips
Thinkin’ Big (Best Bet – $3.60) – BET NOW
That was a strong win from the son of High Chaparral last start and he looks like a Derby contender in the waiting.
Trained by the Waterhouse/Bott combination, the classy three-year-old led throughout last start at Rosehill and showed them a clean pair of heels in the straight.
He has drifted from $3.40 to $3.50 but that’s of no concern and he should be tough to beat.
Tarka ($8) – BET NOW
Looked good winning three consecutive races this preparation, which included a win over subsequent Group 1 winner The Autumn Sun, but he was a little flat behind Thinkin’ Big last time out.
The David Payne-trained runner was left flat-footed when Thinkin’ Big sprinted, but rising up in distance could help his chances and he will get an economical run from barrier two.
Irukandji ($26) – BET NOW
Showed good form as a two-year-old when upsetting a big field at Rosehill but he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since.
Team Hawkes lines up the son of Dundeel which was well-backed to win the Gloaming Stakes last start but managed only third in the field of five.
Aramayo ($7.50) – BET NOW
Winner of two from four starts and that was a nice victory in a field of 15 at Newcastle last time out. Going from Newcastle to Group 1 level isn’t easy, however, but he gets all favours from the inside draw and there has been some specking in the betting.
Doesn’t quite have the exposed form of others but we wouldn’t be ruling him out.
Dealmaker ($7.50) – BET NOW
Finished a nose behind Tarka last start and although he finished last of six runners in a recent trial, he wasn’t asked to do much.
The Chris Waller-trained colt has shown solid form throughout his career without being a stand out type, but he could sit at the back of the field and work into the race late at each way odds.
Mickey Blue Eyes (Best Roughie – $9.50) – BET NOW
Probably deserves to be shorter in the market after producing a wonderful win at Randwick last time out in the Dulcify.
The form in that race wasn’t overly strong but he got quite far back during the run and was able to pick up Gem Song in the straight, despite giving it 2-3 lengths at the 200m mark.
It was a performance of a colt going places and he’s a nice each way chance.
Visao ($21) – BET NOW
Scored back-to-back wins in Melbourne before running a disappointing seventh at Moonee Valley last start.
The son of High Chaparral was a 1.8-length winner at Flemington prior to that over 1800m and the drop to 1500m didn’t help his chances last start. Rising to 2000m is going to be ideal here and a win wouldn’t be a shock.
Home Ground ($51) – BET NOW
Showed form in much easier races than this and his recent form has been poor. Connections are looking for a home run but we’d prefer to see him in something much easier.
Purple Sector ($9.50) – BET NOW
Showed good ability when scoring by 5.3 lengths at Kembla Grange two back before running third behind Mickey Blue Eyes last start.
Whether he’s good enough to turn that form into winning form, we’re not sure, but he shouldn’t be discounted and he will get a nice run from barrier four.
Maid of Heaven ($11) – BET NOW
Wasn’t far off being the best each way but she just didn’t show enough last time out to warrant the selection.
The Mark Newnham-trained filly gets the weight advantage over the boys but we’re not sure she’s ideally suited to this race.
Don’t discount but we’d want a better price than $11.
Frankely Awesome ($9) – BET NOW
Hasn’t done much wrong in winning both career starts to date and she has plenty of upside, but also no experience at this level which is a big concern.
$8.50 is a touch short but a win wouldn’t shock the world.
Panzerfaust ($41) – BET NOW
Better suited to the Highway Handicap races and this isn’t a well-placed runner.
