Sunday horse racing tips
Race 1. (13:20) Bet365 Odds Drift Protect Maiden (1200m)
#8 – Palace Whisper @ $3 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Palace Whisper comes off a second placing at Caulfield, and we’re expecting that form to stack up nicely.
The three-year-old filly by Street Boss was only a nose behind the winner, and dropping to this class should help.
$3 is a fair price and her odds should firm on race day.
Race 2. (13:55) Portarlington Fn Maiden (1100m)
#3 – First Mate @ $2.05 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Kylie Vella-trained four-year-old finished third on debut at Warrnambool, which was a handy outing.
He finished 4.1 lengths behind the winner, but he didn’t have much luck after being pushed wide around the turn.
He has been respected in betting and that is a good sign.
Race 4. (15:05) Portarlington Beach Motel Maiden (1700m)
#2 – Clever Approach @ $2.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Clever Approach has been threatening to win a race for some time now, and he gets his best chance to break through.
The four-year-old gelding owns eight placings from 12 starts, including a last-start third at Warrnambool. That run should help and it’s only a matter of time before he scores.
Damian Lane rides and that should give punters confidence.
Race 5. (15:45) Absolute Plants BM58 (1700m)
#4 – Mahashakti @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Coming off a win at Geelong is Mahashakti, which scored impressively by 1.3 lengths. She looked capable of going back-to-back and she was strong through the line.
The daughter of Mahisara is a progressive type that gets every chance off the inside draw. She has to carry 62kg, but the top weight and favourite carries 65.5kg.
Race 6. (16:20) Cheeselinks BM58 (1300m)
#6 – Yulong Island @ $2 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Yulong Island has been well-backed throughout the week and that is hardly surprising given his form.
The son of Exceed And Excel got off the mark at Yarra Glen two starts back, before running third on the same track last start.
$2 is currently available and he will likely start as the odds-on favourite.
Race 1. (13:15) De Bortoli Wines Maiden (1100m)
#6 – Giselle Anne @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Giselle Anne should have won a race after 19 attempts, but it could be time to strike on Sunday.
The four-year-old mare faced tough opposition in the early stages of her career, and she ran well. Her recent form hasn’t been as good, but she deserves a win.
Barrier three is ideal and with Rachel King in the saddle, she should get a good run.
Race 2. (13:50) Great Northern On Tap C1 Handicap (1100m)
#2 – Hurt Money @ $2.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Peter and Paul Snowden line up the three-year-old colt that won at Hawkesbury two starts back before placing at Canterbury.
The son of I Am Invincible was only a length behind Estrado, and that form should stack up back in provincial level.
Barrier four helps and he looks the testing material.
Race 5. (15:40) Royal Hotel Wyong BM64 (2100m)
#4 – Souchong @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Souchong has scored two wins from her last three starts, and she can’t be overlooked despite the rise in class.
The five-year-old won by a length on a heavy surface last start, and she’s capable of winning on all tracks.
She is a four-time winner that gets a 2kg claimer in the saddle to help, and that could be enough to win again.
Race 7. (17:00) Wyong’s Next Raceday BM64 (1000m)
#3 – Proud Mia @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Proud Mia comes into this race with back-to-back wins, and her most recent win was emphatic. She scored by 4.8 lengths at Albury, and that form stacks up well.
She has yet to race at Wyong, but the tight-turning track is ideal, and she has yet to finish worse than third at this distance.
Take the $2.90 before it firms in on race day.
