Sunday horse racing tips
Race 1. (12:20) Pipe Pro Direct Drilling Maiden (1200m)
#7 – Brookline @ $3.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Brookline comes off a tidy third placing on debut at Ballarat and she’s much shorter in the betting this time around.
The two-year-old filly paid $19 on debut when finding trouble in the straight, so it wasn’t the luckiest run she’ll ever experience.
$3.30 is a fair price and she could win the opener.
Race 2. (12:55) The Haymarket Maiden (1100m)
#4 – Mashrabiya @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Mashrabiya comes off three consecutive second placings in New South Wales and that form bodes well at Ballarat.
The James Cummings-trained three-year-old was 3.5 lengths off the winner last start but she is better for the experience and she could have the class edge.
It could pay to follow betting moves as her odds could fluctuate.
Race 4. (14:05) Global Turf BM64 (1400m)
#5 – Spirit of Gold @ $3.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Peter Moody lines up the former Kiwi that looked forward in a recent trial at Pakenham.
The four-year-old mare owns a win and four placings from six starts across the Tasman, including a win at Pukekohe in February.
Her form reads well and she will have no trouble handling the wet track.
Race 7. (16:00) Sportsbet Bet With Mates BM64 (1600m)
#9 – Criminal @ $8 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Criminal is a two-time winner that hasn’t lived up to expectations, but he could be worth following in this company.
The Freedman-trained three-year-old had no luck two back at Pakenham and followed it up with a solid fifth last time out.
It’s last-chance saloon for Criminal but he could steal the cash.
Race 1. (12:15) Cool Blue Ice Handicap (1000m)
#1 – Boketto @ $1.95 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The two-year-old filly comes off an impressive maiden win at Quirindi and she looks capable of rising through the grades.
She is a well-bred daughter of So You Think that is in good hands with Kris Lees and she won’t be worried about the improved conditions for this contest.
Barrier two is ideal and we’re not surprised by the betting move.
Race 2. (12:50) MPC Earthmoving Maiden (1250m)
#1 – Anselmo @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Anselmo has been a touch unlucky not to win from four starts but he gets his best chance here.
The Brett Cavanough-trained three-year-old comes off a fourth at Scone behind Chaready, which should be a good form guide.
He demands attention at this level and he only needs luck from the tricky draw.
Race 5. (14:35) The Verdict Coffee BM58 (1250m)
#2 – Chavret @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Paul Messara-trained four-year-old comes off a win at Scone and that form should be good enough for this company.
She is a daughter of Zoustar that capped off a second placing fresh up with a narrow win, and she’s capable of going back-to-back.
Barrier two should help and after opening at $3, there has been a solid betting move.
Race 7. (15:50) Mannion Drilling Gunn Cup (1600m)
#3 – Total Recall @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Total Recall is getting close to another win after consecutive fifths. They followed a win fresh up at Tamworth and anything close to that effort would be good enough.
He is a well-bred son of Animal Kingdom that wasn’t far behind a smart field last start and the form out of that race stacks up nicely.
Barrier 11 is the only concern, but over the mile, he should have time to find cover.
