Caloundra Cup Day free tips & form
Race 1. (12:48) Butler McDermott Law Classic (1000m)
#11 – Karaja @ $2.40 – Bet Now
Karaja didn’t have all favours last start when losing a plate, so punters should go on her debut win at Ballina.
That came by 5.3 lengths and showed her real ability. Drawing barrier 13 could see her become a victim of circumstances again, but carrying 54kg is ideal.
Deserves to be favourite and she could start shorter in the betting.
Race 2. (13:23) XXXX Gold Handicap (1000m)
#1 – Tarzan @ $3.60 – Bet Now
Tarzan is always tough to beat when the confidence is up. He comes into this with a win at Sunshine Coast by 2.8 lengths and that’s good form.
He turned around some poor form with the win and he usually holds that form well. He’s a 12-time winner that has served punters well and could continue to do that here.
$3.60 is a fair price for a six-year-old with his confidence back.
Race 3. (13:58) The Wharf Mooloolaba BM85 (1600m)
#5 – Queen of Kingston @ $4.20 – Bet Now
Looking for three consecutive wins is Queen of Kingston, which looked good when winning at Ipswich last start.
The Daniel Bowen-trained five-year-old has now won seven of her 20 starts and she also has eight placings. That’s a nice record and she could snare a city win.
Bookmakers are offering a good price.
Race 4. (14:37) BOQ Maroochydore BM75 (1400m)
#11 – Intrinsic @ $4.80 – Bet Now
Intrinsic could provide punters with some value after running well this campaign. The Kris Lees-trained mare scored a win on this track three back and has produced two good efforts since.
She made up huge ground when running fourth last start at Ipswich after settling at the rear of the field. If she can settle a little closer this time around, she should be around the mark.
Expect jockey Larry Cassidy to put her in a more forward position.
Race 5. (15:17) Yalumba Wines BM80 (1200m)
#7 – Tardis @ $4 – Bet Now
Tardis is in red-hot form after posting back-to-back wins. The Toby Edmonds-trained mare scored a one-length last time out and that form looks ideal for this.
The four-year-old defeated a field of 15 runners last start and having that experience is always key against big fields.
Jeff Lloyd rides and she looks a top contender.
Race 6. (15:57) Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m)
#9 – Baccarat Baby @ $2.90 – Bet Now
It’s tough to overlook the second placing in the Queensland Guineas two starts back. The three-year-old filly didn’t fire in the Group 1 Tatts Tiara last start, but that was expected.
She’s a much better chance against her own age group and given her placing behind Kolding, she has to be the best winning chance in this.
Punters launched into her opening odds and we’re expecting that price to drop throughout the week.
Race 7. (16:33) Kendrick Racing Caloundra Cup (2400m)
#1 – Big Duke @ $2.60 – Bet Now
Big Duke is getting ever so close to a win and his effort for second in the Tatts Cup last start warrants attention.
He’s a grand customer which has won seven of his 36 starts and although not as consistent as he used to be, he would have put five lengths on this field in his prime.
Drawn well and he’s used to carrying big weights so the 60.5kg won’t be an issue.
Race 8. (17:10) Oaks Glasshouse Handicap (1400m)
#3 – Jamaican Rain @ $2.90 – Bet Now
We’re still convinced that Jamaican Rain is a much better horse going left-handed, but she should still be tough to beat here.
The six-year-old is a seven-time winner from 16 starts which ran well in the Tatts Tiara last week and it’s good to see her on the quick back up.
Tegan Harrison rides from barrier two and that’s going to help her chances.
Race 8. (17:50) Access Insulation Sunshine Coast Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Boomtown Lass @ $4.80 – Bet Now
Boomtown Lass rarely runs a bad race and she deserves to be respected here.
The three-year-old filly is coming off consecutive second placings this campaign and she’s knocking on the door of a statement win.
That could come here and punters are getting a price worth taking.
