Surround Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Lady Shenandoah (Best Bet – $1.60)
Class is with Lady Shenandoah, who has come of age recently with three excellent wins in succession.
The Chris Waller-trained filly scored an effortless win over similar opposition last start and there is no reason to jump off her back.
$1.60 is short but she’s worth including in multis.
(2) Lady of Camelot (Best Each Way – $4.50)
The Golden Slipper winner is taking her time getting back to winning form, but she stuck to her guns well for second behind Lady Shenandoah last start.
A repeat of that effort will be enough to finish in the first two, and they are clearly the best two fillies in the race.
(3) Manaal ($17.00)
The daughter of Tassort didn’t fire last time out but she’s unbeaten in two second-up starts, so we’re not leaving her out of trifecta and first four bets.
On her day, she’s good enough to beat fields of this nature, so be weary of her chances.
(4) Movin Out ($81.00)
Punters get big odds for the one-time winner and rightfully so. She’s looking for something much easier than this.
(5) Powers of Opal ($46.00)
Her form last preparation was good, but she is looking for something easier. We would prefer to wait for races around the 2000m mark later this autumn.
(6) Lilac (Best Roughie – $17.00)
Lilac is better for two runs back from a spell, including a third placing at Randwick behind our top two picks.
They could run the same trifecta in the Surround Stakes, and it could be worth taking a straight trifecta in the same order.
(7) Lazzura ($20.00)
There has been some specking for Lazzura and she gets every chance off the inside draw. She’s a first four chance, but she needs to show her best form.
(8) More Territories ($41.00)
She hit the line impressively to down Perfumist last time out, and that form stacks up nicely. However, she meets the best age-group fillies and this is a massive rise in class.
(9) Amelita ($34.00)
She ran good sectionals in the Light Fingers behind Lady Shenandoah. That is a good form guide, but repeating that effort could prove difficult.
Barrier 11 doesn’t help her chances, so we’re prepared to leave her out.
(10) Castanya ($81.00)
Her fresh up run isn’t good enough to be competitive at Group 1 level, hence the big odds.
(11) Delichy Boulevard ($35.00)
We have backed her a few times this season, but we needed to see a better run from her fresh up.
She showed better form last campaign when running three consecutive placings, but she might be looking for easier company now.
(12) Husk ($81.00)
The daughter of Calyx is another runner looking for something easier. We expect her to be struggling a long way from home.
(13) Dominetta ($41.00)
She ran second behind Aeliana at Randwick last prep before placing behind Zeitung at Flemington.
Kicking off over 1400m is ideal and she could run into fourth, so we’re prepared to include her in our first four picks at big odds.
(14) Idle Flyer ($151.00)
She comes off consecutive wins but not near this level. The triple-figure odds tell the story.
(15) Island Dec ($81.00)
She returned from a spell with a win at Canterbury over Eternal, but Eternal has since run last at midweek level at Rosehill on Wednesday.
