Surround Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Montefilia ($11) Bet @ Sportsbet
She is a classy filly that owns four wins and two placings from eight starts. However, we would like to see her over longer distances.
Two of her wins have come at Randwick and we’re not surprised at the specking at double-figure odds in the betting market.
2. Away Game (Best Each-Way – $9.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Away Game is only a small filly but she is classy at best. The Maher/Eustace-trained daughter of Snitzel comes off a third placing at Randwick and that came behind Every Rose.
Barrier 14 won’t make it easy but she handles all tracks and we wouldn’t leave her out of calculations on Saturday.
3. Dame Giselle (Best Bet – $4.80) Bet @ Sportsbet
She had no luck when being caught wide last start and she was still good enough to loom into the race in the straight.
The is a five-time winner that is unbeaten in three second-up starts, so we’re expecting another big effort.
$4.80 for the favourite is a value price.
4. Every Rose ($18) Bet @ Sportsbet
We can’t discount Every Rose based on her impressive win last time out. She defeated many in this field and although conditions suited, she can’t be left out.
The daughter of Choisir enters first-four calculations and punters get odds worth taking.
5. Hungry Heart ($11) Bet @ Sportsbet
The Waller-trained filly has been disappointing her last two starts. We thought she would perform better last start, but she failed to let down in the straight.
Barrier 17 doesn’t add to her appeal and we can’t have her in selections against this level of opposition.
6. Forbidden Love (Best Roughie – $13) Bet @ Sportsbet
Coming off a tough run in the Magic Millions is Forbidden Love, which should be given another chance.
She was shuffled back in the run and never got a clear shot at them, but she worked nicely to the line.
Barrier three is ideal and the $13 might not last long.
7. Never Talk ($8) Bet @ Sportsbet
Never Talk rose to the occasion when running second behind Every Rose at Randwick as a $16 chance.
Her odds have been halved for this race, which is understandable but punters aren’t getting a value price this time around.
She opened at $11, which is a price we would consider, but not $8.
8. Vangelic ($19) Bet @ Sportsbet
The daughter of Vancouver hasn’t run for some time now and we don’t see that changing here.
She is only a one-race winner and she has yet to fire at Randwick, so we’ll put her to the side.
9. La Mexicana ($6.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Money has come for the Victorian filly, which owns five wins from seven starts. She has shown good speed throughout her career, but we question the strength of the Victorian fillies.
She won’t get the inside running this time around and although track conditions suit, she could be found out at Group 1 level.
10. Thermosphere ($18) Bet @ Sportsbet
She needed both runs back from a spell and we wouldn’t be surprised if she figured in the finish.
The Cummings-trained filly owns three wins from 13 starts and she was only 1.9 lengths behind Every Rose last time out.
11. Elizabeel ($20) Bet @ Sportsbet
Another runner we wouldn’t be leaving out of calculations. Her best form comes on dry tracks, but she will appreciate having a run under her belt.
$20 for a runner finished fourth against similar opposition is good shopping, so include for trifecta and first-four bets.
12. Joviality ($31) Bet @ Sportsbet
Her last two starts have been poor and she should be targeted towards something much easier.
13. Philizzy ($81) Bet @ Sportsbet
Only a one-race winner from nine starts and she isn’t running well enough to enter calculations for the Surround Stakes.
$81 is a fair price from bookmakers.
14. Love Sensation ($34) Bet @ Sportsbet
Another one-race winner that was only 1.8 lengths behind them last start. That was a nice effort and she will need to reproduce that effort again.
We wouldn’t overlook her chances and her opening odds of $101 have been hammered.
15. Miravalle ($27) Bet @ Sportsbet
Struggled towards the end of her last campaign and beating this field fresh up is tough. Unlikely to trouble them.
16. Eight Diamonds ($81) Bet @ Sportsbet
This race looks too tough for the lightly-tried type. Expect a struggling effort.
17. Pippali ($126) Bet @ Sportsbet
Big odds and rightfully so as she won’t be getting close to them.
