Sydney Cup Tips for Trifecta

Punters should have five runners on their ticket for the Sydney Cup trifecta. We recommend taking a boxed percentage trifecta. Spend what you want, and the payouts can be massive.

  • Mr Monaco
  • Soul of Spain
  • Valiant King
  • River of Stars
  • Paradise Storm

Sydney Cup First-Four Tips

We have included eight runners for our Sydney Cup first-four. Boxing all eight selections for a percentage can still result in a huge payout, and you spend what you want.

  • Mr Monaco
  • Soul of Spain
  • Valiant King
  • River of Stars
  • Paradise Storm
  • Juja Kibo
  • Litzdeel
  • Whisky on the Hill

Sydney Cup Form Guide & Tips

1. River of Stars ($8.50)

She ran fourth in the Melbourne Cup, and Chris Waller has her ticking over nicely this preparation.

We’re not leaving her out of our picks, and rising to 3200m should be right up her alley now, and having James McDonald riding doesn’t hurt.

2. Campaldino ($7.50)

Enjoying a successful campaign, and our only worry is being too tired after another gutsy effort for second last time out.

We’re going to trust our eye and leave him out of picks.

3. Changingoftheguard ($67.00)

Big odds after struggling to fire this preparation. He would need to find a few lengths to go close.

4. Soul of Spain (Best Each Way - $9.50)

Ticking along nicely this preparation and rising to 3200m is ideal. He owns two placings at Randwick, and he is a nice stayer in the making.

Carrying 54.5kg only helps his chances, so take the odds.

5. Whisky on the Hill ($15.00)

He got back to his best form with a tidy effort last time out, and he can’t be left out based on that. We’re happy to include him in first four picks.

6. Valiant King (Best Roughie - $35.00)

He was well-backed to win the Melbourne Cup, but he didn’t fire. His run in the Caulfield Cup was huge, and we’re giving him one more chance.

He has the miles under his belt with three runs this prep, and the goal was the Sydney Cup all along.

7. Paradise Storm ($16.00)

The Auckland Cup winner when smashing them across the Tasman. Third when dropping back to 2600m last start, which was a good effort.

He could be sneaking under the radar, so the $16 odds are worth including for a talented type on the rise.

8. Piggyback ($15.00)

Hard to know what you’re going to get with Piggyback. She looked good when winning three back, but she can find a few better on the day.

We need bigger odds than $15 to have any interest.

9. Athabascan ($41.00)

A dour stayer who needs to find a few lengths to have any chance in the Sydney Cup.

10. Juja Kibo ($14.00)

He has been backed and beaten in his last three starts. He didn’t run poorly in those races, and carrying 52kg should feel light for him.

Craig Williams takes the ride, and he could run another solid race.

11. Mr Monaco (Best Bet - $6.00)

He had no right to win last start, but he was strong to the line late. That’s an excellent form guide for the Sydney Cup, which is why he tops our picks.

The European-bred runner has a stack of potential, and a Group 1 win is coming soon, so put him on top for Saturday’s race.

12. Machine Gun Gracie ($9.50)

The former Perth runner won well over 1900m last start, but rising to 3200m is a different kettle of fish.

She won the SA Derby over 2400m, but the $9.50 is too short for a runner who isn’t proven against this level of opposition.

13. Newlook ($8.50)

He showed his best form last week when scoring in wet conditions. He had everything go his way, and we don’t think that will be the case again on Saturday.

We expect his odds to drift throughout the week.

14. Litzdeel ($13.00)

A nice enough stayer on her day and getting in with 51kg helps. We’re happy to include her in Sydney Cup picks at double-figure odds.

15. Highland Bling ($18.00)

Second in the Adelaide Cup, and although there has been betting support for her, we don’t think it’s the best form guide for the Sydney Cup.

16. Hutchence ($151.00)

Big odds, and he would need to improve a lot to win.
