T.J. Smith Stakes Form Guide & Tips

1. Bivouac (Best Each Way – $4.40) Bet @ Sportsbet

The James Cummings-trained four-year-old has been preparing for this race and his two runs this campaign have been solid.

He is a past winner at Randwick and although he hasn’t shown his best in 2021, he shows his best form with two runs under his belt.

Dangerous and Hugh Bowman rides from a positive barrier draw.

2. Nature Strip ($3.90) Bet @ Sportsbet

A slick customer but he was beaten by Eduardo last start and punters never really know what to expect with Nature Strip.

A three-time winner over this distance but we prefer him over 1000m. He is much better over the shorter distances and he could be caught close to the line on Saturday.

$3.90 is a fraction too short for our liking.

3. Eduardo (Best Bet – $4.80) Bet @ Sportsbet

Comes into this race with back-to-back wins and they have both been incredible. He gunned down Nature Strip fresh up and gave his rivals a galloping lesson last start.

There is nothing wrong with his form and punters get value odds once again. He owns seven wins from 19 starts and adding to that record is entirely possible on Saturday.

4. Zoutori ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

A lovely winner at Flemington last start but this will be his first attempt at Randwick. That can often find out runners lacking experience in Sydney.

He is a six-time winner at the distance so he can’t be ruled out, but bookmakers have him at the right price for the TJ Smith.

5. Masked Crusader ($8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

He is a promising type that comes off a Group 1 win at Moonee Valley. Different conditions here but we all know what he can deliver when he’s on his game.

We haven’t put him in our top selections, but we’re not leaving him out of trifecta and first-four calculations.

The class is there and punters get a good price.

6. Dirty Work ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

His form hasn’t come back this preparation, which is a shame. The quality is there but an easier target could be on the cards next time around.

Punters are getting big odds for a talented type, but he would need everything to go his way on Saturday.

7. Order of Command (Best Roughie – $81) Bet @ Sportsbet

Huge odds for a runner that made up solid ground behind Eduardo last time out. The Melbourne-based runner is very consistent and he shouldn’t be overlooked.

Damien Oliver rides and if he gets onto the back of a runner, there is no reason why he can’t figure in the finish once again.

$81 is a steal.

8. Eleven Eleven ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

Gunning for four wins on the bounce but this is a steep rise in class. He didn’t fire at his only Randwick start and although he’s a smart type, he should be outgunned here.

9. Libertini ($11) Bet @ Sportsbet

The race at The Valley wasn’t run to suit and she prefers Randwick. The four-year-old mare owns four wins from eight attempts at Randwick and it gives her time to warm up.

Our only worry is the inside barrier. She likes room to move and Tommy Berry will need to get off the rail at some stage.

She is risky, but worth including in selections.

10. Haut Brion Her ($8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

Heavily backed when returning to racing last start. It was only a fair run but punters should be expecting a better effort.

Loves this distance and she is a past winner at Randwick, but we needed to see more fresh up. She might want further later in this campaign.

11. September Run ($12) Bet @ Sportsbet

Mixing her form this season but she can sprint with the best of them. The worry is her form at Randwick, which consists of three starts for no wins or placings.

We’re prepared to risk her against this level of opposition.
