The Gong Form Guide & Tips
(1) Gringotts (Best Bet – $5.50)
He showed devastating pace when winning last time out and he has class on his side against this field.
He’ll get back from the wide barrier, but if he gets cover, he’s good enough to finish over the top of them at generous each-way odds.
(2) Mighty Ulysses ($34.00)
A good winner fresh up but he wasn’t good enough last time out. The odds tell the story, so we’re leaving him out.
(3) Territory Express (Best Each Way – $6.00)
We expect him to settle back with Gringotts and the winner could be the horse that gets the best luck weaving through the field.
Two starts for a win and a placing at Kembla Grange, and he could finish best.
(4) Sky Lab ($41.00)
He’s an enigmatic type with enough ability to win this race, but he’s too inconsistent to include in picks.
There has been no betting support for him since markets opened.
(5) Lion’s Roar ($51.00)
A touch past his best despite winning three starts back. We can’t see him running well enough to go close.
(6) Encap ($18.00)
Another runner who is too inconsistent to be considered a winning chance. Dangerous at his best but there are better winning chances in this field.
(7) Griff ($101.00)
He hasn’t come up as an older horse, which is disappointing. The odds tell the story.
(8) Osipenko ($35.00)
Another runner that hasn’t shown his best form this season. He has ability, but he needs a confidence boost before taking down this field.
(9) Lekvarte (Best Roughie – $11.00)
A blistering winner at Randwick two back before hitting the line nicely at Group 1 level last time out at Flemington.
A nice chance at the double-figure odds, and punters get value odds.
(10) Converge ($51.00)
Not running well and not being included in our selections.
(11) Steparty ($9.00)
He is struggling to find winning form but his last two placings were good behind Kimochi and Another Wil.
That’s Group 1 form and we’re not leaving him out of our picks. He’s nearing a win and it could come on Saturday.
(12) Waterford ($11.00)
Disappointing at Randwick behind St Lawrence, but it was a bunched finish, so he wasn’t disgraced.
At shorter odds than expected, but he’s a decent first four chance with the right conditions.
(13) Berkshire Shadow ($19.00)
Not running up to his usual level, but he comes off a third placing, which was encouraging. We’re just not sure he’s up to this level of racing.
(14) Loch Eagle ($67.00)
Not showing his best form this season, which is disappointing. Might have lost his zest for racing.
(15) Suparazi ($27.00)
Never too far away from the prize and he finished third behind Gringotts in the Big Dance, which is a top form guide.
Could be worth including in selections at big odds.
(16) Vivy Air ($20.00)
She comes off back-to-back placings, including running second to Gringotts. That’s the best form guide, so we can’t leave her out.
Her odds have drifted from $15.00 to $20.00, but that’s not too concerning.
(17) Glory Daze ($35.00)
Only fair fresh up, and although we expect better now, we can’t see him improving enough to win.
(18) King of the Castle ($13.00)
Returned to winning form at Randwick last time out, but that came against easier opposition. The odds are too short for our liking.
(19) Poison Chalice ($23.00)
He gets the inside draw but that’s unlikely to be enough to see him win.
(20) Tavi Time ($11.00)
Fourth in the Big Dance and he’s a chance here at double-figure odds. Can’t be overlooked.
