The Goodwood Form Guide & Tips

1. Rey Magnerio (Best Bet - $4.80)

He ran second in The Quokka, which should be a good form guide for The Goodwood. He’s a lovable type that will shorten on race day, so take the odds.

He is fitter after two runs this preparation, and with William Pike riding, he should get every chance in the run.

2. Enriched ($23.00)

A nice type on his day, but two of his three runs this campaign haven’t been good. We’re happy to leave him out of our picks this time around.

3. Grand Larceny (Best Roughie - $13.00)

He scored a tidy win at Morphettville last start, and although it didn’t come at Group 1 level, he’s good enough to be competitive.

After opening at $20, money has come for him to score an upset.

4. Desert Lightning ($23.00)

The former Kiwi is never too far away from the prize, and after running fourth last start, he could run in the first four again.

We’re including him in our first four picks at generous odds.

5. Watchme Win ($15.00)

He comes off three consecutive second placings, but the $15 odds are too short for our liking. We don’t rate him as a genuine Group 1 contender, but we need bigger odds to entertain his chances.

6. Super Smink ($26.00)

His win at Morphettville fresh up was a good effort, but he didn’t follow it up with much behind Geegees Mistruth last start.

It’s Group 1 form, but he would need to find a couple of lengths to win.

7. Tycoon Star ($7.50)

Tycoon Star would have been our best each-way pick had he drawn a good barrier. He’s out in the carpark with barrier 16, so he’ll need to be good to win.

We’re including him in trifecta and first four picks based on talent, and he’s a tough customer, so he could settle three-wide and still go well.

8. Recon ($18.00)

A winner at Mornington last start when beating La Fracas. That form wasn’t franked on Wednesday at Warrnambool, but he had plenty of that field.

With six wins from 11 starts, he’s a nice type for the future, so we’re taking a risk and including him in first four picks.

9. Sghirripa ($101.00)

His form has fallen, hence the triple-figure odds. We’re leaving him out in a tough race.

10. Meridius ($27.00)

A two-time winner already this preparation, but his form has come in lower grades. Group 1 level should be too much for him.

11. Power Beau ($101.00)

Big odds, and we would prefer to see him in something much easier.

12. Midtown Boss ($61.00)

Struggling to produce his best now after showing good form early on. Another runner looking for something easier.

13. Flying for Fun ($5.50)

She finishing a nose behind Geegees Mistruth in a blanket finish last start. There is a lot to like about that form, and we’re not leaving her out.

She could be a well-backed runner on race day.

14. New York Lustre ($21.00)

An upset chance following a tidy effort behind Grand Larceny. She will only be better with the run under her belt, and punters get value odds.

15. Talkanco ($10.00)

Bet Now

Third behind Jigsaw in The Quokka and dropping to 51.5kg doesn’t hurt her chances. However, that run might have been her peak and following it up with another big effort isn’t easy.

If room permits, include her in first four picks, but she’s on the outside looking in.

16. Extragalactic (Best Each Way - $6.00)

One of the best young fillies going around, and her run for second behind Tycoon Star last start was excellent.

She will likely settle back, but her turn-of-foot is good, and getting in with 50kg makes her tough to beat, so include her at each-way odds.
