Thursday horse racing tips

Warrnambool

Race 1. (13:00) J&P Advanced Plastering Maiden (1100m)

#3 – Fire @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The three-year-old gelding ran eighth on debut at Warwick Farm, but his trial form since has been solid and this is an easier race.

He finished second in a trial at Rosehill two back before winning by 3.5 lengths five days ago. That was an impressive trial and drawing the inside barrier is ideal.

Fire looks well-placed in this company.

Race 2. (13:30) The Midfield Group Maiden (1200m)

#8 – Andress @ $6.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Punters have been burned with Andress, but we’re giving the four-year-old mare another chance at this level.

The daughter of Dissident owns three placings from four starts and she is better than what she showed at Ballarat last time out.

The heavy track could help, and punters get odds worth taking.

Race 5. (15:00) Oceanview Landscaping BM64 (1700m)

#7 – House Spouse @ $3.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet

House Spouse only narrowly missed staying unbeaten at Bendigo last start and he’s good enough to get back to his winning ways.

Trained by Patrick Payne, the four-year-old won by 6.3 lengths on debut at Echuca, and although beaten at odds of $1.40 last start, punters get value this time around.

The rise in distance is ideal, so take the value odds.

Race 8. (16:30) Cassign BM58 (1100m)

#2 – Shock and Awe @ $2.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Shock and Awe scored a comfortable maiden win at Coleraine last start, and he looks capable of producing the goods again.

The Lindsay Smith-trained son of Time for War showed ability at his first two starts, which included a third placing at Warrnambool.

The $2.50 will likely firm, so take the value available.

Hawkesbury

Race 1. (12:45) Tab C1 Handicap (1800m)

#1 – Bazooka @ $2.05 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Bazooka owns only one win from 21 starts, but the four-year-old gelding has rattled off four consecutive placings and he’s knocking on the door.

The son of Smart Missile has yet to race at Hawkesbury, but the track should suit, and the early betting support is a good sign.

Getting back to a good racing surface won’t do his chances any harm.

Race 3. (13:55) Fowler Civil Contracting Maiden (1300m)

#1 – Head Legislator @ $3.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Luck is needed from barrier 15, but Head Legislator is knocking on the door of a win after notching four consecutive second placings.

The four-year-old son of Headwater was a short margin behind the winner at Kembla Grange last start, and he hit the line nicely.

$3.60 is well worth taking against this level of opposition.

Race 6. (15:50) Killahy Equine C1 Handicap (1100m)

#6 – Conrad @ $3.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Kim Waugh-trained three-year-old showed his ability last season, and we’re expecting big things this time around.

He won at Wyong two starts back by 3.8 lengths, which is an impressive way to break maiden grades He followed it up with a seventh at Rosehill behind Hong Kong-bound Saif.

His recent trial win at Wyong bodes well and we’re confident of a big effort.

Race 7. (16:25) Pioneer Services Rowley Mile (1600m)

#10 – Surf Dancer @ $12 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Surf Dancer is an imported runner that is better for having two starts in Australia. Both runs came at Randwick and he is unbeaten in two third-up starts.

The son of Lope de Vega was only 3.4 lengths behind them last start over an unsuitable distance. Rising to the mile is ideal and punters get lovely value odds.

Take the $12 as it’s likely to shorten on race day.
