Thursday horse racing tips

Cranbourne

Race 1. (13:00) Silks Cranbourne Maiden Plate (1200m)

#2 – Fast Witness @ $3 – Bet @ Bet365

Fast Witness is a three-year-old colt who comes off a second placing at Geelong, so there was nothing wrong with his debut effort.

The son of Star Witness handled the heavy track well and he’s likely to get similar conditions on Thursday, so stick with him.

The $3 is a fair price and it could firm on race day.

Race 2. (13:30) Renew Your Membership Maiden (1200m)

#6 – Signal @ $5 – Bet @ Bet365

Signal doesn’t get all favours after drawing barrier 16 but the four-year-old has a fair amount of ability.

The Matt Laurie-trained runner comes off consecutive placings at Sale and Pakenham, so he looks ready to win at this level.

Punters get $5 and those odds are generous. He needs luck but the odds are too good to pass up.

Race 5. (15:00) Frankston Sand Soil BM64 (2580m)

#1 – Pure Deal @ $3.40 – Bet @ Bet365

Pure Deal is already a three-time winner this preparation and we fancy his chances of adding another win to his record.

The Stuart Laming-trained son of Dundeel won by a nose at Sale last start and he owns two wins on a heavy surface, so the signs are positive.

Carrying a big weight help isn’t easy over this distance but he’s the class runner.

Race 7. (16:00) De Bortoli Wines BM64 (1600m)

#3 – Battaglia @ $3.20 – Bet @ Bet365

The Brett Scott-trained five-year-old is nearing another win after a solid performance at Cranbourne last start.

He owns two placings from three attempts at Cranbourne and there wasn’t much better him and the winner.

Getting a 1.5kg claimer riding helps and we’re not surprised by the early betting moves coming his way, so put him on top.

Coffs Harbour

Race 2. (12:50) Ooh Media Plate (1200m)

#1 – Cool Amigo @ $4.20 – Bet @ Bet365

Cool Amigo didn’t fire at Canberra last start but we’re prepared to forgive that effort and stick with the three-year-old colt.

The son of Sebring looked much better when breaking maiden grades with a 3.5-length win and anything close to that is good enough.

Getting the inside draw is another positive and punters get each-way odds.

Race 4. (14:05) Nuflow Country Magic M Mercer C2 (1600m)

#2 – Kapsali @ $5.50 – Bet @ Bet365

Kapsali is better for two runs back from a spell and we saw enough from him when running fourth at Taree last time out.

The four-year-old son of More Than Ready was good enough to produce back-to-back wins last preparation and only the wide draw is against him here.

Punters should take the each-way odds available.

Race 5. (14:40) Toormina Hotel C3 Handicap (1200m)

#2 – My Snow Queen @ $2.90 – Bet @ Bet365

My Snow Queen looked good when winning two back and she didn’t handle the polytrack at Sunshine Coast last time out.

The four-year-old mare is a two-time winner and six-time placegetter from 15 starts, so the consistency is there and we’re sticking with her.

Getting 1.5kg off her back brings her into contention.

Race 7. (15:55) Moonee Beach Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m)

#4 – Hosier @ $2.35 – Bet @ Bet365

Hosier is the class act of this field having won at Sandown two starts back before placing at Caulfield last time out.

The six-year-old son of Camelot has since won a trial at Muswellbrook to prepare and with five wins from nine starts, he has to be respected.

Bowman rides and that is a bonus.
