Thursday horse racing tips

Wangaratta

Race 1. (13:00) Financial Momentum Maiden (1590m)

#1 – Alpha Male @ $3.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Alpha Male comes off consecutive second placings at Wangaratta and he could go one better on Thursday.

The four-year-old son of Magnus has been beaten by a short margin and he meets a field that’s there for the taking.

His odds have firmed from an opening quote of $3.40, which is a good sign.

Race 3. (14:00) Mason Park Maiden (1400m)

#7 – Brilliant Speed @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Brilliant Speed wasn’t far behind the winner on debut at Bendigo and there has been solid betting support this time around.

The Peter Moody-trained son of Brazen Beau was only 2.4 lengths away as a $15 chance, so the $2.60 available is a big change with bookmakers.

Barrier 13 is the only negative, but expect a good effort.

Race 6. (15:30) Sign Effects BM58 (1170m)

#7 – Alluring Grace @ $4.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Alluring Grace is steadily getting close to posting her second career win. She comes off consecutive placings at Morphettville, which bodes well.

The four-year-old mare by I Am Invincible was 1.3 lengths behind the winner last start and the short break would have done her some good.

It’s not a strong field and we’re happy with the $4.40 available.

Race 7. (16:00) Sportsbet Take a Sec BM64 (1000m)

#6 – Okay to Pay – $2.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The four-year-old has plenty of ability and it could be worth overlooking her most recent effort at Caulfield.

She owns two wins from four starts and she showed toughness when scoring at Bendigo two starts back.

Getting 4kg off her back is ideal and she gets the inside draw to add confidence to our selection.

Coffs Harbour

Race 1. (13:20) Sawtell RSL C1 Handicap (1500m)

#1 – Luz Long @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The four-year-old son of El Roca has been around the mark throughout his career and this run should be no different.

He owns one win and six placings from 10 starts, including two placings at Coffs Harbour. That experience holds him in good stead and we’re not surprised by the betting support.

Getting Hugh Bowman is another positive.

Race 4. (15:10) Sawtell Hotel Maiden (1000m)

#2 – Tigertude @ $3.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Tigertude is on debut after winning a trial at Grafton and that form should stack up well on race day.

The four-year-old son of Myboycharlie looks to have ability after scoring by a length and the betting support is a good sign.

It’s not a strong maiden field, so he could make a winning debut.

Race 6. (16:25) Coffs Harbour Land Rover BM58 (1200m)

#8 – Jet Pack @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Jet Pack already owns two wins from five starts and the three-year-old could add another on Thursday.

The son of Fastnet Rock won narrowly at Port Macquarie last start and he’s unbeaten at the distance, which bodes well.

Barrier 11 could make it harder over this distance, but he should come out jet-propelled and give them something to chase.

Race 8. (17:40) Paradigm Homes C2 (1000m)

#10 – Phoenix River @ $3.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Phoenix River showed enough when running third fresh up to warrant attention.

The six-year-old son of So You Think finished under a length behind the winner, and although his second-up form doesn’t read well, it’s not a strong field.

Most of the money has come for the favourite, so put him on top.
