Thursday horse racing tips
Race 2. (13:50) Brazen Beau @ Darley Maiden (1100m)
#2 – Spacewalk @ $3.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
James Cummings lines up the two-year-old colt who drops in grade and it could have an immediate effect.
The son of Exosphere was 5.4 lengths behind Golden Slipper hopeful Best of Bordeaux last start, which is a good form guide for midweek racing.
Barrier two is ideal and having Hugh Bowman in the saddle helps.
Race 4. (15:05) Bowermans Maiden Plate (1100m)
#9 – Headliner @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Headliner hasn’t been facing easy fields to start her career, so she should find this more to her liking.
The Chris Waller-trained daughter of Star Turn ran sixth behind I Am Lethal last start, who has since run some smart races.
Having James McDonald in the saddle helps and we expect more money to come for her throughout the day.
Race 6. (16:20) Schweppes BM78 (1550m)
#2 – Casino Mondial @ $8.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Casino Mondial is better for having two runs under his belt and the professional nine-time winner has upside.
He showed ability when winning at Randwick last campaign and anything close to that should see him winning on Thursday.
Punters get odds worth taking.
Race 8. (17:30) Tab BM78 (1200m)
#3 – Zarastro @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Zarastro is shooting for three consecutive wins and we like his chances of returning from a spell with a win.
The three-year-old colt comes off two trial wins, so he’s forward and ready to fire up in the autumn.
We’re unsure about his credentials on a heavy track, but most of the runners are in the same boat.
Race 2. (18:15) Dalton Consulting Group Maiden (1200m)
#2 – Cateechee @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Cateechee is looking to cap off consecutive placings with a win and she went close in a good field last start.
The three-year-old filly by Lonhro was under a length behind the winner and we expect that form to stack up well.
She is drifting with bookmakers but we wouldn’t be alarmed by that.
Race 3. (18:45) Duffy & Simon Lawyers Maiden (1400m)
#8 – Glint of Hope @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Glint of Hope took on some tough opposition during her first campaign and she looks well-placed at maiden level.
The three-year-old ran behind the likes of Willowy, Daisies and other Oaks types, so it’s strong form.
She was scratched from racing at Sandown on Wednesday and we’re happy to take the $1.90 available.
Race 4. (19:15) Monacellars Wines/Spirits Maiden (1600m)
#10 – Tauty @ $3.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Tauty lost no admirers when placing at Pakenham last start, making it four placings from five career starts.
The three-year-old filly by Cluster hit the line strongly behind So You See, and although 4.3 lengths behind the impressive winner, it was a good effort.
Punters get value odds and the improved draw could see her improve enough to win.
Race 7. (20:45) Sportsbet Bet with Mates BM64 (1400m)
#2 – Kermy @ $5 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Kermy looked the goods when winning three back at Geelong and he followed it up with consecutive placings.
He owns three wins and seven placings from 13 starts, so he’s consistent and good enough to win in this company.
He has placed in all three runs at Pakenham and punters should expect another fine effort.
