We have expert betting tips for the cards this Thursday at Pakenham and Port Macquarie.
There is plenty of value available with bookmakers at the Thursday meetings and we have our best bets across the cards.
Thursday horse racing tips
Race 2. (15:30) Battery Zone Maiden (1200m)
#4 – Extreme Step @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Hayes-trained three-year-old has been well-backed on debut and that is a good sign.
She is a daughter of Extreme Choice and his progeny have been running well this season, so punters are confident of her chances.
Drawing barrier two is ideal and we would watch for any late betting moves.
Race 4. (16:30) De Bortoli Wines Maiden (1400m)
#3 – Astern Villa @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Astern Villa didn’t have much luck at his first two starts, so he should go close with a clean run in transit.
The three-year-old colt by Astern finished ninth at Mornington before getting held up horribly at Warrnambool last time out.
His luck is set to change and punters get each-way odds worth taking.
Race 6. (17:30) Sportsbet Take a Sec C1 Handicap (1600m)
#2 – Manasa @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Manasa scored a good win fresh up at Cranbourne and anything close to that effort will be good enough.
The four-year-old mare got back to solid form when running sixth at Sale last month and she should be fit and ready to fire.
It’s not the hardest field she has faced, so she should be the testing material.
Race 8. (18:30) Sportsbet Set a Limit BM70 (1200m)
#4 – Litchfield County @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet
We were disappointed with Litchfield County last start, but we’re prepared to give him another chance.
The four-year-old son of Sebring didn’t handle the heavy conditions, but his form prior included a second placing the Group 1-performed Beau Rossa.
His form is streets ahead of this field, so if he’s anywhere near his best, he should be winning.
Race 1. (13:35) De Bortoli Wines Maiden (1500m)
#10 – Scanlan @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Scanlan turned her form around with consecutive second placings at Tamworth and Port Macquarie, so she should go well again.
The daughter of Shooting to Win was under a length behind the winner on this track, so the track experience is a bonus.
Punters have come for her and the market confidence is a good sign.
Race 2. (14:10) Prime7 Local News Maiden (1000m)
#5 – Taking the Mikki @ $3 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Nathan Doyle-trained debutante has been well-backed after showing ability at the trials.
He scored a trial win at Scone before placing in three subsequent trials, so he should be ready to fire on debut.
There is enough betting support to suggest he could hit the ground running, so watch for any late betting pushes with the untried runners.
Race 5. (15:55) John Oxley Motors C1 Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Jet Pack @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Jet Pack scored a fresh up last preparation at Port Macquarie and he could remain unbeaten on Thursday.
Now a three-year-old, Jet Pack has been primed with two trial placings, and he looks ready to put his best foot forward.
The betting support isn’t a surprise and he’s drawn to get all favours.
Race 7. (17:10) Gemlife Rainbow Beach C2 Handicap (1500m)
#1 – Five Crowns @ $2.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Five Crowns is unbeaten and the son of Sacred Falls looks like a nice type in the making.
The Kris Lees-trained runner scored by 1.3 lengths as the odds-on favourite at Newcastle, so getting $2.40 is a fair price.
We thought he would be shorter with bookmakers, but a late push could come.
