Thursday horse racing tips
Race 1. (13:10) Tab BM64 (1500m)
#2 – Nothingsweetaboutme @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The four-year-old mare wasn’t far behind some smart types at Canterbury last start and we think that form stacks up well.
She is a two-time winner from eight starts and getting the inside draw should see her land close to the pace.
She looks to have upside than most in this field.
Race 2. (13:45) Sky Racing C1 Handicap (1000m)
#9 – Petulant @ $2.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Petulant is on debut after scoring consecutive trial wins at Warwick Farm and Rosehill, which is a good sign.
The Hawkes-trained daughter of Starspangledbanner scored by 1.5 lengths at Rosehill and anything close to that effort should see her winning.
They hit the ground running from the Hawkes stable, so keep her safe.
Race 4. (14:55) Brolton Group Maiden (1100m)
#7 – Pizarro @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Pizarro is another quality debutante who could make a winning debut on Thursday.
The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old comes off a trial win at Randwick, which was his second trial win from four attempts.
Drawing barrier 14 doesn’t make it easy, but having James McDonald in the saddle is a bonus. His opening odds of $2.50 have firmed into $2.25, so it’s a solid betting move.
Race 7. (16:50) Pioneer Services Cup BM64 (1500m)
#9 – This’llbetheone @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The three-year-old scored a gutsy win on debut when holding off Banana Queen by a nose at Kembla Grange.
He had solid betting support on that occasion after winning a trial at Randwick, so it’s good form to bring to the table.
McDonald rides and there has been solid betting support again.
Race 1. (13:30) Evergreen Turf Maiden (1000m)
#12 – Title Shot @ $4.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Lloyd Kennewell lines up the three-year-old filly who did enough during her first campaign to warrant attention.
The daughter of I Am Invincible finished fourth on debut at Cranbourne before pushing Heroic Chief close when second at Ballarat.
We’re happy to take the $4.40 as that price should firm.
Race 2. (14:00) Total Animal Supplies Maiden (1200m)
#5 – Morioka @ $3 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Morioka finished only three lengths behind Flying Evelyn at Flemington last start, which came in Group 3 company.
Dropping to maiden levels is ideal and her effort to finish third at Caulfield two back is another terrific form guide.
We thought she would be an odds-on chance, so take the $3.
Race 4. (15:00) Modtech Group Electricians Maiden (1500m)
#2 – Eidolon @ $3.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The three-year-old is getting close to a win after running second at Benalla last start, so we’re in his camp.
He enjoyed the rise in distance when running second to Battaglia, and stepping up to 1500m is another positive.
His opening odds of $5.50 have been smashed, so there is significant betting support.
Race 5. (15:30) Catanach’s Jewellers BM58 (1500m)
#2 – Runaway Train @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Clayton Douglas lines up the two-time winner who finds her best form early in her campaign.
The daughter of Bullet Train didn’t fire when sixth at Mornington last start, but it came in unsuited conditions and she looked tired.
She owns a win and a placing from three attempts at Mornington, so we’re preprepared to include her at each-way odds.
