Hawkesbury

Race 2. (12:35) Barrack Point Maiden (1400m)
#6 – Matlock @ $2.45 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Matlock is a three-year-old gelding with two runs under his belt, including a third placing on debut at Scone.
The son of Kermadec didn’t fire at Canterbury last time out but his trial form since at Randwick included a win in heavy conditions.
Barrier two is ideal and punters should be confident.
Race 4. (13:55) Lake Illawarra Prov & Country Maiden (1000m)
#4 – Cool Reception @ $3.30 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Cool Reception comes off back-to-back third placings and she looks ready to win a race.
The daughter of Kiss And Make Up was only 1.4 lengths behind the winner at Moruya and she gets the inside draw for her return.
Tommy Berry rides and she won’t take long to break maidens.
Race 5. (14:35) Haywards Bay BM64 (1100m)
#2 – Decisive Move @ $2.45 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Decisive Move has been around some smart types throughout her career and she’s good enough to beat this field.
The three-year-old filly broke maidens when scoring at Warwick Farm two starts back before finishing third on the same track.
She has been primed with two trials and she could hit the ground running for the Waterhouse/Bott stable.
Race 8. (16:20) Koona Bay BM64 (1600m)
#1 – Star Sparks @ $3.20 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Money has come for Star Sparks, who didn’t fire fresh up but he’s much better than that.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained gelding won back-to-back races at Nowra and Gosford last preparation, so anything close to that will be good enough.
Carrying a big weight makes it harder but we’re happy with the odds available.

Race 2. (11:50) Hammonds Maiden Hurdle (3200m)
#8 – Tolemac @ $2.10 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Tolemac comes off back-to-back second placings and his maiden hurdle win shouldn’t take much longer.
The six-year-old finished second behind Rider in the Snow and Hey Happy at his last two starts, so the form checks out and it’s a good sign.
The odds aren’t surprising and he could firm to an odds-on quote.
Race 4. (13:10) Bet365 Hurdle (3200m)
#3 – Hey Happy @ $2.20 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Hey Happy won at Casterton two back when beating Tolemac and that could be a good form guide.
The Patrick Payne-trained six-year-old followed it up with a fourth at Sandown where he didn’t appreciate the firm surface.
This suits and the money has come for the favourite.
Race 6. (14:30) Eulong Steeplechase (3400m)
#1 – Historic @ $3.60 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
The eight-year-old is a four-time winner over jumps and going over the steeplechase has turned his form around.
He finished second at Casterton last time out, and although 25 lengths behind the winner, he should find this much easier.
It’s not a strong field and punters get odds worth snapping up.
Race 8. (15:30) South West Equine BM64 (1600m)
#2 – Rolls @ $8.50 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Rolls took some time score another win but the five-year-old could be worth sticking with now.
The son of Anacheeva won by a half-length at Ballarat and he won his only start at Hamilton, so that’s an excellent sign.
We’re surprised by the $8.50 available with bookmakers and we expect those odds to firm on race day.
