Tuesday horse racing tips
Race 1. (13:00) Ultima Hotel Maiden (1340m)
#8 – Champagne Witness @ $3.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Champagne Witness is getting close to a win after posting seven placings from 10 starts, including one on this track earlier this preparation.
The four-year-old mare was a short margin behind the winner last start at Ararat. She paid $2.15 on that occasion, so punters should enjoy the $3.70 available.
Barrier three is ideal and she could break through.
Race 3. (14:00) DMB Contracting Maiden (1140m)
#2 – Chief Conductor @ $3.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Chief Conductor has firmed in betting and it’s not surprising. The three-year-old colt is by I Am Invincible and out of Snitzerland, so the breeding is impressive.
He wasn’t asked for much in a recent jumpout at Pakenham, so he could be saved for a big run on debut.
We’re happy with the $3.70 and the odds could firm considerably.
Race 5. (15:00) McGrath Estate Agents Maiden (1755m)
#7 – Salto Angel @ $2.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
We’re not sure what went wrong with Salto Angel last start, but we’re prepared to give her one more chance.
The four-year-old daughter of Sacred Falls was left flat-footed in the straight at Ballarat, but with seven placings from 13 starts, she deserves a win.
Her best form including a placing behind Through Irish Eyes at Flemington, so she demands respect.
Race 8. (16:30) Roderick Brokers BM64 (1340m)
#8 – Castille – $3.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Peter and Paul Snowden line up the three-year-old colt who scored on debut at Sale before going two solid races.
The son of Lonhro then ran fourth at Swan Hill behind some smart types before doing well to place at Geelong last time out.
Track experience is ideal and he gets every chance from barrier two.
Race 2. (14:45) Win Network Maiden Handicap (1400m)
#5 – Tinipit @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Marcus Wilson lines up the four-year-old mare who owns five placings from 10 starts.
She has yet to miss a placing in two attempts at Ballina, including a second placing behind Squeeze Dis last time out.
The daughter of Tapit has breeding on her side and it’s only a matter of time before she wins.
Race 4. (16:05) Zzzfm C2 Handicap (1250m)
#1 – Hostwin Toronado @ $2.05 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Hostwin Toronado couldn’t make it three consecutive wins last start when running fifth at Gold Coast, but he should find this much easier.
The three-year-old son of Deep Field is unbeaten at the track after winning two back by a short margin. That should give him confidence and we’re not surprised by the odds.
He could firm into an odds-on quote.
Race 5. (16:40) Roofing Craftsmen C1 Handicap (1590m)
#2 – Vivyn @ $2.35 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Barrier 13 could make it tough for Vivyn, but the Michael Costa-trained mare looks to have the class edge.
The four-year-old comes off a placing at Gold Coast and her win on debut is a good form guide. She scored by 7.3 lengths on a heavy track, so if she can repeat that effort, it’s all over.
The $2.35 might not last long, so take what’s available.
Race 6. (17:15) Ballina Cup Jan 14 BM58 (1400m)
#4 – Hot News @ $3.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Hot News is another Costa-trained runner who could bounce back after a disappointing run at Ipswich last season.
The four-year-old mare scored by a length at Gold Coast fresh up before running 10th at Ipswich, but she was only 3.8 lengths behind the winner.
If she can find her best form, she should be too hard to handle.
