VRC Champions Sprint Form Guide & Tips
(1) Giga Kick ($5.00)
It was good return to form from Giga Kick at Caulfield when beating Tropicus, but we don’t think he was facing the elite sprinters.
We can’t see him winning this race, but we’re happy to include him in multiples. The $5 odds are just far too short for our liking.
(2) Jedibeel ($35.00)
He comes off a tough run in The Everest, and that could be too hard to bounce back from. Might enjoy going the other way around a bit more.
(3) Caballus ($15.00)
Won well on the first day in a race that didn’t feature any superstars. However, it’s a nice type in the making, and having recent form on the board can’t be overlooked.
A solid bet at the current odds, include him in multiples.
(4) Libertad ($61.00)
Backed at odds on Saturday and he didn’t hit the line quite well enough. He had the run to suit, and he’s just not stretching out like he used to.
Tough to back off the inside draw, so we’re not backing him this time.
(5) Tropicus ($14.00)
Comes through the same race as Giga Kick, and it’s paying $14. Consistent enough to test this field, but it would need to improve 2-3 lengths to beat the two favourites.
(6) Joliestar (Best Each Way – $3.00)
$3.00 isn’t exactly an each-way price, but we couldn’t leave her out. It was a toss-up between Joliestar and Tentyris for top pick, and she only narrowly missed out.
She is the best-performed runner in the field coming off a good fifth in The Everest. She likes Flemington, and we expect her to be fighting out the finish.
If she is ahead of Tentyris with 200m to go, she’s game enough to hold on.
(7) Magic Time (Best Roughie – $16.00)
Everest form is better than most in this race, and she wasn’t all that far behind at Randwick. A return to form could be on the cards, and it wouldn’t be a huge upset to see her finish in the first three.
(8) Benedetta ($31.00)
She’s not nearly as consistent as she used to be, which is a shame. But it’s not easy to regain your form against some of the best sprinters in the land.
(9) Flying for Fun ($67.00)
Flying for Fun is racing is fun here. We can’t see her getting close, hence the big odds.
(10) Tentyris (Best Bet – $2.60)
His win on Saturday was outstanding. He picked up a good field like it was nothing, and although this is a different race, he’s a sprinter you can get excited for.
It could be a Joliestar vs Tentyris clash down the Flemington straight, and he’s armed with an explosive turn-of-foot, and 53.5kg on his back doesn’t hurt.
The odds have drifted, but that’s better value for punters.
