MLB Betting Tips

St Louis Cardinals vs Cincinnati Reds @ Great American Ball Park

Game 2 of the doubleheader*

It’s an interesting pitching matchup in the Cardinals vs Reds on Thursday. The Reds send out ace Wade Miley to face 3-0 J.A. Happ, which should make for an exciting contest.

Miley is 11-4 with an ERA of 2.74. He has had another stellar season and with 144.2 innings under his belt, he has the significant experience edge this season over Happ.

The Cards pitcher is 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA but has pitched only 28.1 innings. Both are talented, so it could come down to which team strike first.

The Reds are going along nicely at 71-62, but they are still 9.5 games behind division leader Milwaukee. They are only 2.5 games ahead of the Cardinals, so it’s an important game.

Cincinnati needs to rebound after losing three on the bounce, but having Miley on the mound helps, and we’re not surprised the bookmakers have the Reds as favourites.

The price is a little low, but that’s what you expect when the ace is on the mound. We like the Reds can get the Thursday MLB multi off to a winning start.

Bet: Cincinnati Reds to win @ $1.65Bet @ Sportsbet

New York Yankees vs Los Angeles Angels @ Angel Stadium

It comes as no surprise to see the Yankees posted as extremely short favourites. They are 76-55 against a team struggling to break even for the season, but the Yankees haven’t been playing well this last week.

They are riding a three-game losing streak, including losses to Oakland and Los Angeles in the opening game of the series. The 8-7 loss won’t do their confidence any good, so it will be interesting to see if having Gerrit Cole on the mound will make the difference.

Cole is 13-6 and has recorded 200 strikeouts. However, he has also given up 18 home runs and that’s where the Angels can strike. They are starting to hit the ball much better after scoring 18 runs from the last two games, which is good to see.

They don’t have a very good pitcher on the mound, but we’re looking for the value and the Yankees don’t represent value at the $1.40 odds. We’re happy to take the Angels +1.5 runs and hope for a close contest.

If the Angels can get off to a hot start, it could knock Cole out of the game early and the Angels will be tough to beat from there.

Bet: Los Angeles Angels +1.5 @ $1.90Bet @ Sportsbet

Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays @ Tropicana Field

Everyone loves a Rays vs Red Sox game and we’re expecting another competitive game on Thursday.

Boston is eight games behind the Rays in the American League East, but with Chris Sale on the mound, they have every right to be confident.

Sale is 3-0 after pitching just 15.1 innings, but he has looked good in the short time. He could lift the Red Sox out of a mini slump, which includes a 7-5 loss to Cleveland and a 6-1 loss to Tampa Bay.

The Rays are firing on all cylinders at 83-48, following a lengthy winning streak. They capped off a series sweep of Baltimore with an easy win over Boston earlier this week, so the signs are good.

Boston struggles on the road and the Rays are 42-23 at home. They are also 33-14 as an underdog, so there is good value in the current odds for the home team.

Despite Chris Sale on the mound, we’re picking the upset at value odds.

Bet: Tampa Bay Rays to win @ $2.25Bet @ Sportsbet
