UFC Fight Night 155 Main Card
Germaine de Randamie vs. Aspen Ladd
Ladd has been rising quickly up the bantamweight ranks, but this will be her toughest test to date against former featherweight champion de Randamie.
Its a match-up that could well favor Ladd if she can get inside and bring de Randamie down as her ground game is a weak point, although she is quite physically strong, does have good takedown defense and can be offensive in the clinch.
Getting in on de Randamie will be her biggest challenge though as she’s at a technical striking disadvantage here and is also giving up 3” in height and 4” in reach.
Nevertheless, while Ladd is quite hittable I still like her youthful energy, drive and determination to propel her into grappling situations where she can get the better of de Randamie and emerge with a decision victory.
Prediction: Germaine de Randamie to win by decision – Bet Now
Urijah Faber vs. Ricky Simon
Faber was still doing fairly well when he made the decision to retire in 2016, so this isn’t the kind of comeback that makes people feel uneasy and uncomfortable, but it remains to be seen how he’ll cope at the age of 40 against the 31-year-old Simon on Saturday night.
Faber’s always kept himself in excellent shape, so that shouldn’t be too much of an issue here, but there were signs that he was starting to not be quite as sharp as he used to be when he hung up his gloves.
Simon will certainly test him in that regard as he’ll keep a high tempo and apply pressure wherever the fight goes as he’s a very good grappler who can also strike too, albeit with more volume than accuracy.
Simon might be the most sensible pick here as he’s not going to give Faber any time to settle back into life in the Octagon, but ‘The California Kid’ is such a seasoned veteran and takes care of himself, so I think he will show he’s still got something to offer as he manages to stay competitive, take his opponent’s neck and find a second round submission.
Prediction: Urijah Faber to win by submission in Rd2 – Bet Now
Mirsad Bektic vs. Josh Emmett
Bektic marked himself out as a force to be reckoned with during his 6-1 run to date in the UFC, but while there’s not quite so much hype behind Emmett, he’s a serious threat in his own right.
It’s an intriguingly balanced fight. Both men are good wrestlers, though I’d favour Bektic to be more eager to take the fight to the mat and showcase the better grappling ability, while his ground and pound is excellent.
On the feet Emmett has that big one-punch knockout power, which could well trouble Bektic who can be over aggressive, but he’s a solid, improving striker in his own right and can operate well in the clinch.
Bektic pushes a good pace, but that can cost him down the stretch as he has faded in the past by the third round and that certainly gives Emmett a window of opportunity here, but I’m leaning a little more towards Bektic thanks to having a bit more to his game, particularly on the mat, which will win him at least two rounds to claim a decision victory.
Prediction: Mirsad Bektic to win by decision – Bet Now
Karl Roberson vs. Wellington Turman
Only 22-years-old, but with a good amount of experience under his belt, Turman comes into this fight on just a few weeks notice looking for an upset.
Turman has a route to victory here as he’s proven to be good with submissions so far in his career and that’s been a weak point for Robertson.
On the other hand, while Turman is a decent striker, he’s not on the same level as Roberson, a former kickboxer with heavy kicks and good power.
Roberson can also work from the clinch and that may spoil Turman’s attempts to get him to the mat, so I’m taking Roberson to keep this one standing and win by second round TKO.
Prediction: Karl Roberson to win by TKO in Rd2 – Bet Now
Cezar Ferreira vs. Marvin Vettori
Ferreira isn’t much of a threat power-wise on the feet and doesn’t have the best chin, but having recognised that he’s more careful nowadays and if he can get the fight to the floor he is very good at finding submissions.
Vettori is a solid if not spectacular all-rounder who is more active and durable on the feet than ‘Mutante’ and has a capable wrestling and submission game to go with it.
There’s more spark about Ferreira when he’s on the mat, but if he can’t find an early finish I like Vettori’s more solid, dependable work-rate on the feet over three rounds to help him to a decision victory here.
