It’s All-Star Weekend in the NBA, and to kick things off today, we have the Rising Stars Challenge featuring rookies and sophomores across the league.

Stephon Castle will lead Team Melo after winning the MVP in last year’s game, while rookie sensation Kon Knueppel heads Team T-Mac.

The rookie combo of Queen and Edgecombe will run the show for Team Vince, while Team Austin is represented by the NBA G-League including Portland’s Yang Hansen.

The profile of this team suits the way these rising star games will be played – shoot bulk triples.

Although on paper, Team Melo has the better squad with Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan, they just lack shooting. Reed Sheppard is a sniper, but Castle, Fears, and Harper to some extent aren’t great shooters from deep.

Looking at Team T-Mac, there’s shooting everywhere. Knueppel is already one of the best shooters in the league and will feature in the Three-Point Contest on Sunday. While Tre Johnson has been off Broadway at Washington, he has unlimited range from deep. Throw in Cam Spencer, Jaylon Tyson and Risacher, they’ve got some serious offensive weapons from range – even Kel’el Ware can shoot the three-ball.
