Dallas Mavericks vs Boston Celtics @ TD Garden
The Celtics are $1.38 outright favourites to win Game 1 at home, and they’re tough to back against given the situation.
They have been dominant at home this season, going 37-4 during the regular season, so that’s the task facing the Mavericks on Friday.
Boston went 2-0 against the Mavericks throughout the year, scoring a 119-110 road win in January before winning 138-110 at home in March.
That’s an excellent form guide, and although the Mavericks improved during the playoffs, it shows how dominant the Celtics could be in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
They are –6.5 favourites with spread betting markets, but more money has come for the Mavericks with the head start.
Dallas has a chance of pulling off an upset on the road, but it requires a big performance from Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
They not only need to play at their very best, but they need their supporting players to be at their best. That includes Dereck Lively II, P.J. Washington, and Derrick Jones Jr, who all need to play well to cover the depth of the Celtics.
That’s the big difference between the Mavericks and Celtics. Boston has much more depth in every position, and when Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown head to the bench, they’re not compromised.
When Doncic and Irving head to the bench, they don’t have anyone trustworthy to keep the offence rolling.
We’re picking the Celtics to win and cover the spread. They love playing at home, and they’ll look to set the tone early.

We are interested in top points scorer markets for Game 1, and we’re backing Boston’s main man Tatum.
He is overdue a big scoring performance, and although the Celtics have many more scoring options than the Mavericks, Tatum could look to take control.
He always plays with a chip in his shoulder, so we see him being more selfish in the opening game of the NBA playoffs.
Doncic is the $1.85 favourite to top score, which is a fair line, but there is much better value with the well-rested Tatum at $3.60.
We’re also backing Tatum to score over 30 points. He has recent totals of 25, 36, 23, 36, and 26, so he’s always around the mark.
Getting $2.35 for Tatum 30+ points is well worth snapping up as an NBA prop pick.
There is also value in Jrue Holiday 6+ assists, which is currently at $2.45. His level of play has improved throughout the playoffs, and he could have a big assist game for the Celtics.
His recent assist totals are 4, 8, 10, 3, and 2. However, having eight and 10 assists is tough to do, so he’s clearly a talented passer.
Given the odds available, we’re prepared to take the risk.
