NBL Round 16 Predictions
—
Wednesday 17/1/24
7:30pm S.E. Melbourne Phoenix vs Adelaide 36ers @ State Basketball Centre
The Phoenix have slid down the NBL ladder in horrendous fashion, and they’re only slight favourites to beat the last-placed 36ers.
Adelaide hasn’t been playing any better, but there is more confidence with the road team on Wednesday night.
We’re happy to take the value odds.
Betting tip: Adelaide 36ers @ $2.02
36ers by 4
Thursday 18/1/24
7:30pm Illawarra Hawks vs Cairns Taipans @ WIN Entertainment Centre
Illawarra is somehow in a playoff position, which didn’t look likely a few weeks ago.
The Hawks have rocketed up the NBL leaderboard, and the Taipans have slipped down a touch.
Most of the early money has come for the Hawks at $1.51, and we’re happy to include them in our NBL picks.
Betting tip: Illawarra Hawks @ $1.51

Friday 19/1/24
7:30pm Tasmania JackJumpers vs Melbourne United @ MyState Bank Arena
Tasmania has played well enough with 11 wins and 11 losses, but they’re no match for United.
Melbourne owns 16 wins and only five losses, so it’s the testing material in 2024. However, there is betting support for the JackJumpers.
The home side is a $2.03 chance, but we’re taking the $1.77 for United to stay at the top of the table.
Betting tip: Melbourne United @ $1.77
United by 3
9:30pm Perth Wildcats vs Brisbane Bullets @ RAC Arena
We’re not surprised by the short $1.33 odds for the Wildcats, who should be too good for the Bullets at home.
The current line is –6.5, which isn’t easy to cover, but the Bullets have been playing much better recently, and they’re in a playoff position.
Covering spreads against Perth at home is tough but take Brisbane to keep it close.
Betting tip: Brisbane Bullets +6.5
Wildcats by 5
Saturday 20/1/24
5:30pm New Zealand Breakers vs S.E. Melbourne Phoenix @ Spark Arena
It’s a desperate time for the Breakers, who didn’t have much go their way last week.
They shouldn’t have lost to Melbourne before being hammered by Sydney, but they should get back to winning form at home.
The Phoenix are playing poor basketball, and New Zealand should capitalise.
Betting tip: New Zealand Breakers
Breakers by 8
8:00pm Illawarra Hawks vs Adelaide 36ers @ WIN Entertainment Centre
The Hawks have a great chance to rise the NBL ladder, and playing the 36ers is ideal.
There isn’t much going right for the 36ers, and although we think they win on Wednesday, we don’t think they can win two games in a row.
Take the Hawks to win comfortably at home.
Betting tip: Illawarra Hawks
Hawks by 6
Sunday 21/1/24
2:00pm Sydney Kings vs Perth Wildcats @ Qudos Bank Arena
The Kings had struggled up until beating the Breakers last week, and they could continue their winning ways.
Perth is a tough beat to beat, but if Sydney wants to make a statement, winning at home is a must on Sunday.
Punters could get value odds on game day.
Betting tip: Sydney Kings
Kings by 4
4:00pm Cairns Taipans vs Brisbane Bullets @ Cairns Convention Centre
The Taipans are desperate for a win, and they could score a victory over their Queensland rivals.
We expect a lot of the money to come for the Bullets, who are playing better, but the Taipans still have enough ability.
Include the Taipans for value.
Betting tip: Cairns Taipans
Taipans by 2
