Punters that took the odds around Melbourne United to win the premiership are concerned after the club went to 2-3 on the season last week.
United haven’t been able to get out of the starting blocks, but Perth and New Zealand are showing why they have dominated the NBL over the last 10 years.
Adelaide are also showing their hand and Thursday’s winner between the Breakers and 36ers will decide which team temporarily holds top spot in the NBL.
5:30pm New Zealand Breakers vs. Adelaide 36ers
The New Zealand Breakers handled their business away from home last week against the Brisbane Bullets.
After taking control of the game shortly after half time, the Breakers pulled away in the second half to secure their spot in the top two on the ladder.
Adelaide looked equally impressive when beating Cairns away from home, something that hasn’t been easy to achieve in the NBL.
The Breakers and 36ers play different basketball, which should make for an exciting contest. The Breakers are starting to use their big men more effectively and the 36ers can put big numbers on the board in the scoring department.
Bookmakers have the Breakers as the slight favourites and we’d have to agree with that.
Betting tip: Breakers to win @ $1.78 (BET NOW)

7:30pm Melbourne United vs. Cairns Taipans
We weren’t surprised to see United as the hot favourites for this game, but we are surprised at United’s lack of winning ability.
It goes to show just because you have a good team on paper, it doesn’t always translate to a successful side and the United team are figuring that out.
They play the Taipans in a must-win game this Thursday night and a loss could see them fall equal with the Sydney Kings, which is no record any team wants this season.
The Taipans are a much better side at home and we’re not seeing enough from them this year to suggest they could upset United away from home.
It’s tough to trust United, but they have to come good sooner or later.
Betting tip: United –5.5 @ $1.89 (BET NOW)

7:30pm Brisbane Bullets vs. Illawarra Hawks
Not much can be said about the Hawks’ season to date, but they’re facing a team coming off a home loss themselves.
The Bullets were favoured to beat the Breakers at home last week, but despite losing they played well throughout the game and punters should be confident this week.
Hawks fans were left disappointed again and the club fell to 1-5 on the season which was expected to go much better. The dismal record reflects their ability to defend and giving up 99 points to the Kings last week was embarrassing.
We’re surprised to see the Bullets at $1.65 here and that’s too good to pass up for the home side.
Betting tip: Bullets to win @ $1.65 (BET NOW)

9:30pm Perth Wildcats vs. Sydney Kings
The Perth Wildcats got back on track last week when thrashing the Hawks 105-74.
With that win, the Wildcats reclaimed the top spot on the ladder and they could keep that spot this week with a win over the Kings.
Kings’ fans finally had something to cheer about last week when they upset the Hawks away from home and scoring 99 points will give them confidence, but coming up against the Wildcats is another kettle of fish.
Perth are one of the hardest teams to beat at home and Perth Arena has become a fortress over the last 10 years in the NBL.
Bookmakers have the line set at 12.5 and the Wildcats have the ability to cover that by halftime.
Betting tip: Wildcats –12.5 @ $1.87 (BET NOW)

5:30pm Melbourne United vs. Adelaide 36ers
Bookmakers currently have United as the $1.65 favourite, but the betting on this game depends on how both teams perform earlier in the week.
We’re expecting United to handle the Taipans easily on Thursday night and on that basis, we believe the odds will firm for United.
The 36ers have a tough game against the Breakers, also on Thursday, and if they win that game expect their odds to shorten just before United tips off against the Taipans.
Due to United having a better chance of winning their first game, we think the value is with the home side here.
Betting tip: United –2.5 @ $1.87 (BET NOW)

7:30pm Cairns Taipans vs. New Zealand Breakers
Cairns and New Zealand play their second game of the week and more could be at stake for the home side.
The Taipans are tipped to lose to United on Thursday night and they’ll could be desperate not to lose two games on the bounce.
Prior to last week they looked impressive when beating Perth at home and that’s the challenge the Breakers will face here.
Having played well away from home this season, the Breakers have been able to amass a nice record, but that could change very soon. They have overachieved so far this season and the shut-down defense of the Taipans could be too much for them to handle.
Betting tip: Taipans to win @ $1.70 (BET NOW)

3:00pm Sydney Kings vs. Illawarra Hawks
The Kings and the Hawks have a great chance to get their season back on track here.
Both teams are desperate for more success this season and we’re giving the edge to the home side here.
Bookmakers haven’t released odds for this game yet, but we’re predicting the Kings will be slight favourites depending on how the teams perform earlier this week.
We’re predicting both teams to lose against their respective opposition, but the home court advantage goes to the Kings and so does our tip.
