NBL Round 8 Predictions

Wednesday 3/03/21

New Zealand Breakers vs. Brisbane Bullets @ State Basketball Centre

The Breakers made a statement when beating the Adelaide 36ers 106-62 last week, which was their biggest win as a franchise.

It was much needed for the Breakers, who had just one win prior. That momentum will help this week as they face a Brisbane side coming off a 115-95 win over Cairns.

Punters should expect a close game to open Round 8, but we’re giving the slight edge to New Zealand.

Perth Wildcats vs. S.E. Melbourne Phoenix @ State Basketball Centre

Perth has won four of its last five games and despite low expectations this season, it’s proving the doubters wrong.

The Wildcats scored a comfortable 89-69 win over Cairns last week where Bryce Cotton was at his brilliant best. Cotton continues to be one of the best players in the NBL and he doesn’t seem keen on slowing down.

S.E. Melbourne was too strong for Illawarra on Sunday, scoring a 93-76 victory. It was impressive and the Phoenix are good enough to beat Perth.

Go with the Phoenix on Wednesday. They are talented and capable of beating Perth.

Cairns Taipans vs. Sydney Kings @ State Basketball Centre

Cairns is having a tough time of it this season and back-to-back losses last week didn’t help.

The Taipans have now lost nine of their 12 games, including the last three. It has been a season of disappointment, but there is more than enough time to rediscover their best form.

Sydney has been mixing its form over the last few weeks. Alternating wins and losses haven’t helped consistency, but they are tough to beat on any given day.

Injuries have hurt Sydney, but they should be good enough to beat Cairns.

Illawarra Hawks vs. Adelaide 36ers @ State Basketball Centre

The stock of Illawarra has taken a dive after consecutive losses last week. It’s not the same Hawks team that showed up earlier this season, but they could bounce back against Adelaide.

The 36ers were horrible when losing to the New Zealand Breakers on Saturday night. It was an historic loss and one that will be tough to come back from.

Not having Isaac Humphries on the floor was a big loss, but we expect the Hawks to take this one regardless.

Perth Wildcats vs. Brisbane Bullets @ John Cain Arena

Perth plays its second game in three days against a Bullets team that has found some form over the last two weeks.

The Bullets have scored three wins from their last four games, including an impressive win over Cairns late last week.

These teams are evenly matched and after a tough game against the Phoenix on Wednesday, Perth should be battle-hardened for this contest.

Bet: Perth Wildcats to winBet @ Sportsbet

New Zealand Breakers vs. Melbourne United @ John Cain Arena

Melbourne continues to breeze through the competition after scoring three consecutive wins. United has lost only one game this season despite suffering some key injuries.

It came through a tough game against Sydney on Saturday where they trailed by 12 points after the first quarter. The win showed their mental toughness with Shea Ili, Jock Landale and Scotty Hopson coming up big.

New Zealand scored a record-breaking win over Adelaide, but without Lamar Patterson, we question its depth against United.

Saturday 6/03/21

Adelaide 36ers vs. Cairns Taipans @ John Cain Arena

We’re not sure how Adelaide will respond to being thrashed by the Breakers, it doesn’t have time to think about.

The 36ers play their second game of Round 8 against Cairns, which is another team desperate for success this season.

Cairns has not lived up to preseason expectations, but a win over Adelaide could see them trend in the right direction.

Bet: Cairns Taipans to winBet @ Sportsbet

S.E. Melbourne Phoenix vs. Sydney Kings @ John Cain Arena

The Phoenix are a serious team this season and they scored an easy win last week without their top scorer.

It was a terrific performance from the Phoenix without Keifer Sykes, but with Sykes back in the team, the Phoenix are even harder to beat.

Sydney is a team that is hard to trust, but any team with Caspar Ware has a chance of winning. However, we can’t look past the Phoenix on Saturday night.

Bet: S.E. Melbourne Phoenix to winBet @ Sportsbet

Sunday 7/03/21

Melbourne United vs. Brisbane Bullets @ John Cain Arena

Melbourne is always tough to beat and with only one loss on its record, United has been the testing material this season.

United has had to battle through injuries, but with Shea Ili back in the team on Saturday, it added a new dynamic to the team.

Brisbane is a team that could push Melbourne close, especially if the likes of Nathan Sobey and Victor Law heat up. However, punters should lock in United on Saturday.

Bet: Melbourne United to winBet @ Sportsbet

Illawarra Hawks vs. Perth Wildcats @ John Cain Arena

It could be an important week for the Illawarra Hawks, which enter Round 8 with recent losses under their belt.

Facing a tough Perth side won’t be easy, but this is the Wildcats’ third game of the week and they could face fatigue issues on Sunday.

The Hawks are good enough to beat the Wildcats and punters could get value odds to close out the week.

Bet: Illawarra Hawks to winBet @ Sportsbet
