Round 16 of the NRL kicks off Friday night with the Bulldogs taking on the Warriors and the Tigers do battle with the Titans. The Eels and the Rabbitohs will have the weekend off. With Game two of State of Origin on Wednesday night, it is expected most players will back up pending a clean bill of health.  Saturday afternoon is shaping to be a big afternoon of Rugby League with the Broncos playing the Raiders and the Storm taking on the Roosters in the top of the table clash.

Round 16

Warriors $1.53 v Bulldogs $2.50

With both teams entering this match fresh after the bye round, it could go either way. The Bulldogs got their acts together in the second half against the Dragons and managed to score 16 unanswered point. What was even more impressive was their defence. The Bulldogs kept the Dragons scoreless for the entire match. In the Warriors last match, they took on the Titans and won by 22 points Blake Ayshford bagged a double in the centres which Shaun Johnson looked back to his best. The Warriors can trouble every team in this competition as long as they can find a balance in their game play. Warriors by 16

Tigers $2.23 v Titans $1.66

The Titans led the Rabbitohs last Friday night 20 – 10 at half time but failed to maintain their enthusiasm into the second half. To the Titans credit they fought hard and lost key players to injury and at one stage had backrowers Kevin Proctor and Chris McQueen playing in the centres. The Tigers came close to beating a depleted Sharks sides and led all the way up until the 79th minute. With the Titans Origin contingent returning and others from injury. The Titans should be close to full strength and win the game comfortably. Titans by 18

Cowboys $1.58 v Panthers $2.38

Penrith will be back from a week off and will be looking to continue their red hot winning streak. The Panthers have shown their potential over the past month and if they stay consistent will give themselves every opportunity come finals time. The Cowboys lost in golden point to the Storm last weekend. With both sides missing numerous players due to origin commitments it made for an exciting interesting match with young players looking to make the most of their opportunities. The Cowboys with Jonathon Thurston are a completely different side and if JT can back up after origin then the Cowboys will win this match. Cowboys by 8

Raiders $1.63 v Broncos $2.30

The Raiders currently sit in 10th spot on the NRL ladder and head into this match as the favourite against the 4th placed Broncos. The Broncos are known for their form decline during the Origin period though with the added bonus of Sam Thaiday and Corey Oates staying at the club this week, the Broncos could shape up strong. Some people say the Raiders have just been unlucky this year and have more often than not lost by small margins. I think the Broncos are unfairly represented in these odds and expect big things from Ben Hunt in this match. Broncos by 8

Roosters $2.13 v Storm $1.72

This top of the table clash is probably one of the most anticipated games of the round. With both teams having large origin representation, this will be an even clash for both sides. The Storm sit outright leaders of the NRL table and still remain one of the best defensive side in the competition. The Roosters thrashed the Tigers in their last match 40 – 18 and will head into this match full of confidence and refreshed after the bye weekend. This game will be close, though I think the Storm will just get there. Storm by 4

Dragons $1.23 v Knights $4.20

The Dragons have been out of touch the past 2 weeks losing the last two in a row. Last week they took on the Eels and looked disappointing and the week before only managed to score a penalty goal against the Bulldogs. If the Knights are going to win another game this year it will be this one. In their last match they only lost to the Sea Eagles by 4 points and stayed competitive right until the end. I think the Dragons can beat their form slump and take this one out. Dragons by 10

Sharks $1.59 v Sea Eagles $2.36

The Sharks currently sit third on the NRL Ladder and a win in this match could have them finish the round in outright second place. The Sharks will be relying on their origin stars backing up for this match, to almost guarantee victory. The Sea Eagles scrapped by against the Knights in their last match and just took home the points. The Sea Eagles have been the under dogs of the competition this year and to many surprise currently sit fifth on the table. For the Sea Eagles to be competitive they will have to maintain possession and complete their sets. Sharks by 8
