NRL Round 23 Tips

Thursday 22/8/19

7:50pm Parramatta Eels vs. Canterbury Bulldogs @ Bankwest Stadium

Parramatta is trending in the right direction once again after posting a 36-12 win over the hapless Titans.

It was a potential slip-up performance from the Eels, but they knuckled down nicely and got the job done. Another slip-up presents itself this week but it comes against a team with confidence.

The Bulldogs are the giant killers at the moment, having beaten the Rabbitohs 14-6 to continue their winning streak.

They’re dangerous because they are playing care free football, so the Eels shouldn’t relax.

6:00pm North Queensland Cowboys vs. Penrith Panthers @ 1300SMILES Stadium

Trying to predict what the Panthers are going to do has proven tough for punters this season.

They looked great in Round 21 when beating the Sharks comfortably but relatively average against the Broncos last week.

Scoring points is the big issue and potentially having both Maloney and Cleary in the team isn’t working for them.

However, the Cowboys are treading water and coming off a thrashing at the hands of the Knights. They have clocked off this season and Penrith could take advantage.

7:55pm Brisbane Broncos vs. South Sydney Rabbitohs @ Suncorp Stadium

It’s interesting to see bookmakers opening the Rabbitohs as $1.80 favourites, despite being beaten by Canterbury last week.

The Souths have been trending negatively for awhile now and there seems to be more questions than answers at the moment.

Brisbane have regained their confidence with a good win over Penrith and they’re a sneaky chance at causing some havoc in the playoffs.

Playing consecutive games at home is only going to help their chances and punters are getting good odds.

Saturday 24/8/19

3:00pm Cronulla Sharks vs. New Zealand Warriors @ PointsBet Stadium

The Sharks weren’t overly convincing when beating the Dragons 18-12 last Sunday, but they looked better than the Warriors.

New Zealand’s playoff chances are all but gone after their 42-6 loss to the Roosters – a game in which they lead 6-0 after an RTS try in the second minute.

It has been a disappointing season for both teams, but at least the Sharks are still in playoff contention. That could be enough to get them over the line.

5:30pm Wests Tigers vs. Newcastle Knights @ Campbelltown Stadium

There is plenty on the line this Saturday with the Tigers vs. Knights.

The winner will be removed from playoff contention and the winner could make a late push for the eighth and final spot.

Tigers find themselves on the ropes having lost 32-12 to the Sea Eagles last Thursday, but the nine-day break will do them plenty of good.

Newcastle started the season well but have slipped down the ladder since. A win over North Queensland last week could get them back into the right frame of mind.

Tough game to call but there’s value with the Knights.

7:35pm St George Dragons vs. Sydney Roosters @ Netstrata Jubilee Stadium

The Roosters have put some pressure on the Melbourne Storm at the top of the table with a thrilling win over the Warriors on Sunday.

St George haven’t performed well all season and this shouldn’t be an overly hard game for the Roosters to win.

Bookmakers have the Roosters as the $1.24 favourites in the head-to-head market and we’re hardly surprised.

Whether or not the Roosters can cover the 11.5 points spread will be the question.

Sunday 25/8/19

2:00pm Melbourne Storm vs. Gold Coast Titans @ AAMI Park

We haven’t seen a Melbourne Storm collapse like that for some years and they could take their frustrations out on Gold Coast.

Melbourne gave up a commanding 18-0 lead against the Raiders, only to see it slip in the dying minutes of the game. It was a rare defeat for the Storm, who are typically strong leaders.

However, the Titans are horrible and the Storm should be able to regain their confidence against the easy-beats of the competition.

Betting tip: Storm –19.5 @ $1.90 Bet Now

4:05pm Canberra Raiders vs. Manly Sea Eagles @ GIO Stadium

Canberra produced the comeback of the ages against the Storm last week and that will do their confidence a world of good.

It’s not about to get any easier however, as the Manly Sea Eagles are a top-four team in their own right.

This will be Canberra’s third consecutive game against a top-four opponent and how that factors for this game will be interesting. They could be tired and Manly could take advantage of that.

We’re expecting a close game.
