NRL Round 23 Tips

Thursday 19/08/21

7:50pm Gold Coast Titans vs Melbourne Storm @ Cbus Super Stadium

The Titans were bitterly disappointing against the South Sydney Rabbitohs last week and facing the Melbourne Storm isn’t an ideal situation.

For a team trying to hold on to a top eight spot, the Titans offered very little. They will need to play much better on Thursday to avoid a hammering by the Storm.

Melbourne is the –20.5 favourite and we can’t see the Titans slowing them down.

Betting tip: Melbourne Storm –20.5 @ $1.90Bet @ Sportsbet

Friday 20/08/21

6:00pm Canberra Raiders vs Manly Sea Eagles @ Suncorp Stadium

The Raiders put up a fight against the Storm last week and that was an encouraging performance from a team needing to win this week.

Canberra is currently on the outside looking in and that’s not the place to be. It now faces the red-hot Manly Sea Eagles, who dismantled the Parramatta Eels last week.

The 56-10 win was the performance of the round and they have a legitimate chance of winning the premiership. Beating the Raiders won’t be easy, but punters get a good price despite Tommy Turbo likely sitting out the game.

Betting tip: Manly Sea Eagles @ $1.54Bet @ Sportsbet

8:05pm Penrith Panthers vs South Sydney Rabbitohs @ Suncorp Stadium

Punters have been patiently waiting for this game as two of the top three teams battle for a chance at the minor premiership.

Penrith has looked strong over the last few weeks and getting Nathan Cleary back at full health is ideal. They will need to play well to hold off the surging South Sydney Rabbitohs, who made easy work of the Titans last week.

The game is played on neutral ground, so there is no home ground advantage. We give the slight edge to the Rabbitohs, but it should be a tight game either way.

Betting tip: South Sydney Rabbitohs @ $2.25Bet @ Sportsbet

Saturday 21/08/21

3:00pm Wests Tigers vs Cronulla Sharks @ Browne Park

The finals chances of the Sharks weren’t helped by the narrow loss to the Newcastle Knights on Sunday. They must now refocus and handle the Tigers to stay in contention.

Wests won’t be an easy win as they looked good against the Cowboys, and we’re predicting an upset result on Saturday.

The Tigers are good enough worry the top eight teams and we haven’t been impressed with the Sharks in recent weeks.

Betting tip: Wests Tigers @ $2.50Bet @ Sportsbet

5:30pm Canterbury Bulldogs vs Newcastle Knights @ Cbus Super Stadium

Newcastle had some nervous moments against Cronulla on Sunday, but it came away with a two-point victory. They must see off the struggling Bulldogs in Round 23, but it shouldn’t be too hard.

Canterbury was well-handled by the New Zealand Warriors and it has only two wins for the season, which is a dreadful record.

Bookmakers have the line at 15.5, which is tough for the Knights to cover. We think they win comfortably, but by around 12 points.

Betting tip: Canterbury Bulldogs +15.5 @ $1.90Bet @ Sportsbet

Knights by 12

7:35pm Parramatta Eels vs North Queensland Cowboys @ Cbus Super Stadium

The Eels are possibly the worst top-four team in history. They started the season on fire and looked like a premiership contender, but they have been awful over the last four weeks.

Parramatta comes off a 46-point hiding at the hands of the Sea Eagles, and it’s lucky to face the struggling Cowboys this week.

If the Eels can’t beat the Cowboys, it’s effectively season over. However, if they have any pride, they should produce a big performance and win easily.

Betting tip: Parramatta Eels –10.5 @ $1.90Bet @ Sportsbet

Sunday 22/08/21

2:00pm St George Dragons vs Sydney Roosters @ Clive Berghofer Stadium

The Dragons stuck with the Penrith Panthers last week, but they were ultimately beaten by 18 points in a one-sided affair.

Another tough game presents itself on Sunday when they face the Sydney Roosters, who despite injuries are close to a top four position.

We thought the Roosters were lucky to beat the Broncos, but we don’t expect it to be a close game against one of the worst teams in the competition.

Betting tip: Sydney Roosters –12.5 @ $1.90Bet @ Sportsbet

Roosters by 16

4:05pm Brisbane Broncos vs New Zealand Warriors @ Suncorp Stadium

Brisbane was unlucky not to beat the Roosters last week, but the New Zealand Warriors are finishing the season strong and still have an outside chance at the eight.

The got past the Bulldogs without much fuss and despite losing numerous players throughout the season, the Warriors continue to fight.

It’s always a good game against the Broncos, so we’re predicting a tight affair. We give the slight edge to the Warriors in this situation.

Betting tip: New Zealand Warriors @ $1.80Bet @ Sportsbet
