The final international football break of the year is upon us, with a whole raft of European sides hoping to secure their place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Held during the northern hemisphere winter for the first time, the World Cup will have an unprecedented impact on the traditional footballing calendar and there are plenty of countries that will be doing all they can this week to ensure they end up reaching the showcase event next year.
FIFA European World Cup Qualifiers
England vs Albania – Wembley
Euro 2020 finalists England will be looking to rubber stamp their qualification for the 2022 World Cup as they host Albania at Wembley. Gareth Southgate’s side are top of the group with two games to play and a win here would all but secure their progress. They take on a plucky Albania side however, who sit 3rd in the group behind Poland and should they pull of a huge shock here, it blows the group wide open. England are generally too good at home though and should emerge victorious here.
Betting tip: England to win the match ($1.13) – Bet @ Sportsbet
England to win 3-0
Republic of Ireland vs Portugal – Aviva Stadium
Republic of Ireland ($10.5)
Portugal will be looking to make up ground on Serbia above them in Group A, as they take on a plucky Republic of Ireland side. The hosts have endured a difficult qualifying campaign and have been way off the pace in Group A, but they have a decent side, with passionate home support sure to be willing them on in Dublin. For Portugal, anything less than two wins in their final two games puts their hopes of automatic qualification in danger and they know they will have to be at their best here. The Republic of Ireland will give this a really good go, but Portugal should ultimately prevail in this one.
Betting tip: Portugal to win the match ($1.36) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Portugal to win 2-0
Wales vs Belarus – Cardiff City Stadium
Wales will be hoping to make a significant step towards their first World Cup in over 50 years as they take on Belarus. Robert Page’s side performed admirably at Euro 2020 and have been knocking on the door at World Cup qualification for a while and they know that a good result here would help their play-off hopes. Belarus meanwhile sit bottom of qualification Group E and they will see this as a free hit in front of the passionate home fans in South Wales. The atmosphere will be raucous in Cardiff and the dragons should pick up a precious win here.
Betting tip: Wales to win the match ($1.22) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Wales to win 3-1
Moldova vs Scotland – Zimbru Stadium
High-flying Scotland will be looking to press home their advantage in World Cup Qualifying Group F, as they travel to Moldova. Steve Clarke’s side are a well drilled outfit and although catching group leaders Denmark looks a long way off, a win here would boost their playoff chances enormously. Moldova meanwhile are as yet winless in Group F, but they will see this as a completely free hit, against a side that need three points. This may not be as easy as many people expect but Scotland should pick up an important win here in Chisinau.
Betting tip: Scotland to win the match ($1.25) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Scotland to win 2-0
Italy vs Switzerland – Stadio Olimpico
European Champions Italy take on Switzerland in a proverbial qualification 6-pointer in the Italian capital. Both sides are locked on 14 points with 6 games played and a win here for either side would propel them towards automatic qualification. Roberto Mancini’s Italy have stalled a little since winning Euro 2020 in the summer, whilst Switzerland have been a side improving steadily over the past few years and another major tournament appearance would be a feather in their cap. Switzerland won’t make this easy for Italy but the Azzurri should pick up an important home win here.
Betting tip: Italy to win the match ($1.67) – Bet @ Sportsbet
Italy to win 2-1
