Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 10 Predictions

Friday 30/04/21

5:05pm Hurricanes vs Highlanders @ Sky Stadium

It has been a tough season for the Hurricanes, who are guaranteed to finish bottom of the Super Rugby ladder.

They have lost numerous close games, but they will want to end the season on a high against the Highlanders on Friday night.

It has been a slightly better season for the Highlanders, but finishing with only three wins from seven games isn’t the record they had hoped for.

There is more attacking flair with the Highlanders and that could be the winning factor against the Hurricanes. They have an ability to spread the ball around more than the Hurricanes and it could be a high-scoring affair.

One of the main problems with the Hurricanes is their discipline. They are constantly getting yellow cards and playing with 14 men, which isn’t a way to succeed in this competition.

Bookmakers have the Hurricanes as $1.66 favourites and that’s shorter than what we priced them. We had the Hurricanes as $1.95 underdogs, so the value is with the Highlanders.

It’s a dead rubber game, so the hungrier team will win. We believe the Highlanders have more reason to produce a big performance and the $2.23 is worth snapping up.

Saturday 1/05/21

5:05pm Blues vs Chiefs @ Eden Park

The Blues haven’t lived up to expectations this season, but they should be tough to beat against the Chiefs on Saturday.

The Chiefs have named a second-string lineup to ensure no one gets injured before the final against the Crusaders next week.

It doesn’t make for an exciting contest, but it should give the Blues a chance to open up and play attacking rugby in front of a big home crowd.

Waikato is resting most of its top players, which makes betting the points spread line difficult. The second-string players will want to make a good impression for a possible spot on the bench for the final.

However, most of them haven’t played much this season and there will be a level of rustiness, which the Blues should capitalise on.

We expect the likes of Caleb Clarke and Rieko Ioane to have a field day in the try-scoring department and that’s why they’re at short odds to score.

Clarke is paying $1.53 to score and Ioane $1.91. There is plenty of value in both options and they could cross for multiple tries in what should be perfect conditions in Auckland.

Take the Blues to win by a big margin. It could be a close contest to start with but the Blues should pull away in the second half when fatigue kicks in.

They should cover the 15.5-point spread.

Betting tip: Blues –15.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Sportsbet
