Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 6 Predictions

Friday 2/04/21

5:05pm Crusaders vs Highlanders @ Orangetheory Stadium

The Highlanders have had a bad week, both on and off the field. Not only did they lose at home to the Hurricanes last week, but they are missing suspended players this week.

A few of the Highlanders players have been stood down due to an out-of-control party following the loss last Friday. It’s disappointing for the Highlanders, given that one of the players was All Black Josh Ioane.

A total of six Highlanders won’t play against the Crusaders on Friday; a hugely important game in the context of their season. Ioane hasn’t learnt what being an All Black is all about and he could cost his team.

He was having a great season, despite the Highlanders struggling for wins. As if the Crusaders needed any help scoring wins this season.

The Crusaders are unbeaten after four games and they come off a bye. In Round 4, the Crusaders scored a 43-27 win over the Blues in Auckland, so they are clearly better than the opposition.

Bookmakers have 19.5 points between these sides and given the Highlanders lineup, we can’t disagree. It’s a generous line and we expect the Crusaders to thrash the Highlanders on Friday.

For value, take Will Jordan to score the first try of the game. He has been electric this season and the $8 odds are too good to pass up.

Betting tip: Crusaders –19.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Sportsbet

Saturday 3/04/21

5:05pm Blues vs Hurricanes @ Eden Park

The Blues were tipped as a team that could challenge the Crusaders at the top of the table, but that’s under serious threat.

Following a heavy loss to the Crusaders and an upset win at the hands of the Chiefs, it’s panic stations for the Auckland-based franchise.

They have failed to live up to expectations in 2021, which isn’t abnormal for the Blues. They had every chance to beat the Chiefs last week, but gave up a try with only a minute to go.

A lack of direction has haunted this team for years and it’s rearing its ugly head again in 2021. The Hurricanes will be keen to capitalise on the Blues’ lack of confidence.

The Wellington-based team scored a fantastic 30-19 win over the Highlanders last week, which came a week after losing in horrible fashion to the Chiefs.

They were up by 21 points but the second half was dreadful. However, with its confidence back following the Round 5 win, the Hurricanes could score the upset win.

Bookies have the Blues as $1.45 favourites. Given their potential, that’s a fair price, but we’re not brave enough to take it. We’ll take the 6.5 points available for the Hurricanes.

Betting tip: Hurricanes +6.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Sportsbet
