Super Rugby AU Preliminary Final Betting Tips
7:15pm Queensland Reds vs. Melbourne Rebels @ Suncorp Stadium
The Queensland Reds have hit top form this season and it comes as no surprise to see them open as firm favourites.
They have won their last three games, and all three have been superb efforts. The Reds started their winning streak with a 19-3 win over the Melbourne Rebels, before handily beating the Western Force 57-5.
Having a recent win over the Rebels will do their confidence plenty of good, but it’s not as though the Reds are lacking in confidence. They scored a terrific 26-7 win over the Brumbies last week, where they dominated every facet of the game.
Reds coach Brad Thorn has named an unchanged team from the one that defeated the Brumbies last week. However, the Rebels have been improved by the addition of Andrew Kellaway and Campbell Magnay.
The Melbourne Rebels have struggled to find their best form in recent weeks. They scored a narrow 34-30 win over the Force last week, which isn’t anything to get excited about.
That win followed consecutive losses to the Reds and Waratahs, but there are some positives. They scored 32 points in the loss to the Waratahs and 34 points in their win last week.
They also have a recent winning record over the Reds, which includes winning two and drawing one of their last four games.
It’s hard to go past the Queensland Reds in this game. They are the red-hot team coming into the preliminary final and it would be a big upset to see the Rebels win.
However, punters need to know where the value is. The $1.32 for the Reds to win is good value if you’re a multi-bet player, so include that option in your selections.
Bookmakers currently have the points spread at 8.5, which is where there could be an even amount of action. We favour the Reds to cover the spread, as they will apply the early pressure and defensively frustrate the Rebels.
For more value, check out the alternative winning margin markets at Sportsbet. You can pick the winning margin and get value odds, and we’re going with the Reds 11-20 ($3.75).
That option gives punters better value and punters can always play multiple options to have a better chance of cashing.
