We have expert betting tips for Super Rugby Trans-Tasman Round 5, which starts on Friday with Hurricanes vs Reds and Brumbies vs Highlanders.
It’s the final round before the final and only three teams have a realistic chance of making it. The Blues are clear at the top, but the Highlanders and Crusaders are fighting it out for a spot. However, if either team loses this week, it will throw the contest wide open.
All five games should provide punters with plenty of Trans-Tasman excitement.
Super Rugby Trans-Tasman Round 5 Predictions
Hurricanes vs Reds @ Sky Stadium
The Hurricanes need some serious help to make the final, but scoring a win over the Reds on Friday would put pressure on the other teams.
They suffered a 12-10 loss to the Brumbies which was a massive dent to their chances. It wasn’t a good performance, but getting back to Wellington should make them much harder to beat.
The biggest problem for the Hurricanes was scoring just 10 points. It’s a massive dip on offense, considering they scored huge totals against the Australian sides earlier in the competition.
The Reds are a team that could give them some problems on Friday night. They pushed the Blues close last week and they are the current Super Rugby AU champs.
Queensland has also beaten the Chiefs, so we wouldn’t overlook the +13.5 points with bookmakers.
Betting tip: Reds +13.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Brumbies vs Highlanders @ GIO Stadium
The Highlanders currently sit in second place on the ladder, but they are $12 to win the competition. They are 11 points ahead of the Crusaders, so we’re not ruling them out of making the final.
A big win against the Brumbies is needed because the Crusaders are only playing the Rebels, but the Highlanders have a buffer and they’re capable of producing the goods.
They remained unbeaten with a 59-23 win over the Waratahs last week, but facing harder opposition in Round 5. The Brumbies scored a win over the Hurricanes, so they won’t go down quietly.
Bookmakers have 7.5 points between them and we think the Highlanders are good enough to cover the spread and force the Crusaders to win by at least 18 points.
Betting tip: Highlanders –7.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Rebels vs Crusaders @ Leichhardt Oval
The Rebels have yet to win a game and are –94. They were beaten 36-26 by the Chiefs last week, which wasn’t a bad performance considering their previous results.
However, a win against the Crusaders is unlikely to happen. The Crusaders have been one of the best teams throughout the season and bookmakers have set a wide margin.
They are 26.5-point favourites to handle business on Saturday and although it’s a big margin, most of the money has come for the visitors.
The result of the Highlanders game will have an impact on the line, so we suggest taking the –26.5 before it pushes out even further.
Betting tip: Crusaders –26.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Blues vs Force @ Eden Park
The Blues need to avoid an embarrassing loss to miss out on a spot in the final. It’s unlikely to happen against the Force, but the Perth-based franchise has played better in recent weeks.
They were beaten by only eight points against the Crusaders last week, which is a win in their books. It was a tough performance, but we don’t think it will happen in consecutive weeks.
The Blues boast an impressive forward pack and an even better backline. Despite being disappointing in the New Zealand competition, they have handled the Australians with ease.
We’re not surprised to see the line at 25.5, which is sizable, but in sunny conditions in Auckland, it could be a huge score line in favour of the home side.
Betting tip: Blues –25.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Waratahs vs Chiefs @ Brookvale Oval
The Chiefs’ season ended when losing to the Reds, but that’s not going to stop them from beating the Waratahs on Saturday night.
They have an explosive attacking team and the Waratahs have been dreadful throughout 2021, so we’re not expecting a close contest.
The Waratahs were beaten 59-23 last week and they are –105 for the season. It’s not good reading and we expect the Chiefs to produce another huge score line.
Sportsbet has 23.5 points the difference, which could be covered by halftime.
Betting tip: Chiefs –23.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
