2021 Australian Open Finals

Naomi Osaka vs. Jen Brady

Naomi Osaka was the pre-tournament favourite and the Japanese/American star has lived up to expectations.

She rolled through her semi-final clash against Serena Williams in straight sets. It was an impressive 2-0 victory against the greatest player of all time and she didn’t have everything go her way from the outset.

Osaka was down an early break against Williams but she battled back almost instantly. Her power shots were too much for Williams and they could be too much for Jen Brady.

We expected Brady to have a successful tournament and she hasn’t let us down. The American journeyman has battled her way through the tournament, outlasting opponents often in three sets.

She needed to dig deep to win her semi-final but after surviving break points on her serve, Brady held off the challenge to make her first Grand Slam final.

The occasion of playing a final could get the better of Brady, as it often does with players lacking in finals experience. It won’t be the case for Osaka, who has the clear big-game experience advantage.

It comes as no surprise to see bookmakers listed Osaka as the $1.19 favourite. Punters aren’t getting much value in that price, but we expect Osaka to roll through Jen Brady in the Australian Open Final.

We recommend backing Osaka to win in straight sets, which pays $1.60. It’s a more handsome price and she has only dropped one set from her last three matches.

Bet: Naomi Osaka 2-0 @ $1.60Bet @ Sportsbet

Novak Djokovic vs. Daniil Medvedev

Novak Djokovic scored a 3-0 win over Aslan Karatsev, but it wasn’t as easy as it looked. Karatsev took the game to the Serbian, who was forced to work in the semi-final win.

The world number one hasn’t had everything go his way in the Australian Open, which included dropping two sets to Taylor Fritz and dropping one set to both Milos Raonic and Alex Zverev.

Reports of a torn muscle were highly criticised by the game’s elite, so he has had plenty of his plate this tournament.

One player that doesn’t surround himself in controversy is Danill Medvedev. The Russian breezed past Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-final and it was mightily impressive to watch.

The 3-0 victory was a big moment for Medvedev given that Tsitsipas had just beaten Rafael Nadal in a five-set comeback. Medvedev has now scored three straight-set wins in a row, also beating countryman Andrey Rublev without worry in the quarters.

Punters are starting to see a changing of the guard in tennis, with the likes of Federer, Nadal and potentially Djokovic starting to slow down.

Medvedev is the fresher player on the scene, and given the betting landscape of this game, expected to give Djokovic a serious test.

Djokovic is only the $1.82 favourite with Medvedev paying $1.99. We expect an even split of money, but we recommend taking Danill Medvedev to win.

He is the fresher of the two players and he knows what it takes to beat the best.

Bet: Daniil Medvedev to win @ $1.99Bet @ Sportsbet
