We have Wimbledon picks and predictions for Monday, June 29th, which features the opening night games from London.
Our tennis picks include three of the best games of the day, including Rublev vs. Safiullin, Ruud vs. Hurkacz, and Bencic vs. Stojsavljevic.
Andrey Rublev vs. Roman Safiullin Best Bet
We’re backing Rublev to cruise past Safiullin in their opening round clash, and the Russian should cover the –3.5 spread.
Rublev is 9-0 in his last nine grand slam opening round matches against older opponents, and although his form over the last few years has been mixed, he’s a top 10 player at his best, and Safiullin could struggle to keep up.
Rublev looks to turn around a straight sets defeat to Hubert Hurkacz in Halle. That wasn’t his finest performance, but he has a solid record at Wimbledon, and Safiullin hasn’t played well recently, including a 2-1 loss in Stuttgart to Giovanni Perricard.
Include Rublev –3.5 in Wimbledon tennis picks on the opening night.
Casper Ruud vs. Hubert Hurkacz Best Bet
There hasn’t been much respect for Casper Ruud in betting markets. He is a $2.90 chance to win, and although Hurkacz is a good grass court player, Ruud has a good record in grand slams, including a Round of 16 showing at Roland Garros.
Hurkacz showed form in Halle when beating Rublev in straight sets, but he failed to advance past Daniel Altmaier. It wasn’t a good showing, and he could struggle to start this match well against a seasoned pro like Ruud.
Ruud has won the first set in his last 15 grand slam matches, and although most of those haven’t come against players like Hurkacz, his best chance to win a set is the opener. The $2.15 odds are worth including in Wimbledon picks, and Ruud could go under the radar in betting markets because of his odds.
Belinda Bencic vs. Mika Stojsavljevic Best Bet
Belinda Bencic is one of the best women’s players to back in the first round. Her record is excellent, and we have the Swiss player making a deep run at Wimbledon.
Despite having not won a grand slam tournament, Bencic has been around the world’s best players throughout her career, and she made a deep run at the French Open before losing to Elina Svitolina in the Round of 16.
Mika Stojsavljevic isn’t on the same level, having lost at Wimbledon last year in straight sets. She comes off a 2-0 loss to Donna Vecic at Queens, and that’s not a good form guide for this match.
Therefore, we’re backing Bencic to cover the –5.5 spread. Our final score has Bencic winning 6-2, 6-1, so she should get it done easily. It’s a tough line to cover, to win by almost a full set, but opening round matches are often one-sided.
