A-League Round 20 Expert Tips & Predictions

Consistency had been lacking from every A-League side for most of the season, but the Newcastle Jets have gone on an incredible run that has seen them open up a gap to the chasing pack.

The Jets sit four points clear of Auckland FC in second, with another chunk of sides sitting further back in the playoff shakeup.

Defending champions Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar are just two headline sides that look to have work to do in order to be playing in the post-season playoffs, while Western Sydney Wanderers are looking in danger of being cut adrift down at the bottom of the pile.

It is another big weekend of games and here are our A-League tips for the next round of 2025/26 fixtures:

Adelaide United are firmly in the mix for a playoff place this season and they will be eager to keep the momentum going here against Wellington Phoenix. United currently reside in fourth place, having won their last two games and they know that another couple of positive results could push them firmly back into the mix at the top of the table. For Wellington Phoenix, climbing away from the bottom of the table is key and they look low on confidence, having won none of their last five games. This should be one-way traffic and a home win for Adelaide United.

It is top vs bottom here, as the Newcastle Jets at the top of the A-League tree, host bottom side Western Sydney Wanderers. 2026 has been all about the Jets, who have put together an incredible winning run and are four points clear at the top of the table as a result. By contrast, Wanderers are in a real pickle, languishing down at the foot of the table and they have work to do if they are to avoid the wooden spoon this season. On paper, this should be a close one, but confidence and momentum is with the Jets, and they should win easily here.

Two of the great A-League teams square off here, as Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory lock horns, in what feels like a big game for both teams. Sydney sit third in the table, having won their last two games but there is still plenty of question marks surrounding them this season. Melbourne Victory meanwhile sit two places behind in fifth and they too have failed to convince anybody of their staying power this season at the top of the table. This could be a good one, with the draw feeling a very likely outcome.

While keeping up with the Newcastle Jets hasn’t been easy for Auckland FC, they remain second in the A-League table and they will be desperate to keep the pressure on here, as they take on Perth Glory. Auckland look to be steadying themselves for the playoffs, but they know they need to keep producing the goods to hold on to a place in the top two. Perth Glory meanwhile sit tenth, with their mini revival seemingly coming to an end of late, winless in their last four games. At home, Auckland are always tough to stop, and they should win well in this one.
