A-League Round 21 Expert Tips & Predictions

It is reaching crunch point in the 2025/26 A-League season, with the Newcastle Jets sitting pretty at the top of the pile.

Their winning streak came to an end last time out, but they still sit clear of Auckland FC and Sydney FC in second and third respectively, as things bunch up with the playoffs looming.

Below them the likes of Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory continue to chase points in the top six, while the Central Coast Mariners are in fine fettle in behind them.

Down at the bottom, Wellington Phoenix and Western Sydney Wanderers continue to toil, with Perth Glory and Melbourne City now looking over their shoulders above them.

It is another big weekend of games and here are our A-League tips for the next round of 2025/26 fixtures:

Two sides in relatively poor form meet here, as Brisbane Roar take on Western Sydney Wanderers, in what feels like a must win game for both. Roar are a curious side, who just can’t generate any consistency and their recent run of five games without a win will be a cause for concern. Western Sydney Wanderers are languishing down at the bottom of the pile, and they have lacked form all season but they did manage a win last time out. This will be cagey, but Brisbane Roar could pluck a much needed home win.

A pair of sides with work to do this term meet here, as Wellington Phoenix host Perth Glory. Phoenix have steadily dropped away from the top six shakeup and towards the bottom of the table in recent weeks and they look to be lacking in confidence. Meanwhile, Perth Glory sit just one point above them down in 10^th and they have work to do if they are to clamour away from wooden spoon trouble too. This will be a cagey one, which could end up as a draw.

It has been a superb few weeks for Central Coast Mariners and they will be looking to make strides in the top six race here, as they host Adelaide United. Mariners have managed to collect 13 points from their last five games and are flying as things stand. Adelaide meanwhile are also unbeaten in their last three games played and are sitting in fourth, with the sides above them in their sights. Both teams will feel confident ahead of this one and a score draw looks to be the value bet.

The current top two in the A-League table prepare to collide here, as the Newcastle Jets take on Auckland FC, in a massive game for both clubs. It has been a superb run of form for the Jets that has propelled them to the top of the A-League table, and they will be eager to stay there over the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Auckland FC are in hot pursuit back in second place and they will be desperate to capitalise on any potential slip ups. This should be a high quality affair, between the best two sides in the league and a draw feels the sensible pick.

Form is continuing to develop for Melbourne Victory, who have crept into the conversation for the top six as a result and they are looking to continue their good form against Macarthur FC here. With their impressive roster of players, much is expected of Victory this term and they could be creeping into the mix at just the right time. By contrast, form appears to have eluded Macarthur FC just when they needed it most and they have dropped out of the playoff places as a result. Victory should be ready to go in this one and a home win feels the best bet.

Champions Melbourne City have endured a rough season and how Sydney FC would love to compound their pain in this one. Sydney have been in and around the conversation for a top three finish all season and they will be chasing a win here, to keep the pressure up on Newcastle Jets and Auckland FC. Things have taken a real turn for Melbourne City, who continue to struggle for form, and they are languishing down in ninth place. Of course, City are a better side than they are currently showing but Sydney FC should have too much for them here.
