Geelong vs. GWS Predictions
—
Best Bet
We expect a close game between Geelong and GWS, but we expect Geelong to win. The 1-30 option pays value odds of $2.15, and we’re locking those in before money comes for Geelong on game day.
The Cats have lost their last two games against the Giants, but after beating Collingwood in a thriller last week, this team is starting to heat. Our only worry is that they expended too much energy in that win, but GWS hasn’t looked good recently.
It comes off three straight losses to Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, and Sydney. Therefore, although the Giants are a threat to win, Geelong should have the edge late in the fourth to post a win, which keeps them inside the top eight and ahead of GWS.
Same Game Multi
In their previous two meetings, Geelong and GWS scored a combined 152 and 155 points, so under 174.5 points is a good line from bookies. We expected the line to be around 168.5, and we’ll happily take the extra points for Sunday’s game.
Patrick Dangerfield has been costly for 2+ goal backers in recent weeks, scoring just one goal in each of his last two games. However, he scored 10 goals in his previous three games, so we’re happy to stick with him.
The game for GWS’s Toby Greene, who scored eight goals in two games before scoring just two from his last three. If the Giants are to mount a challenge, Greene needs to convert, and we’re taking the $1.75 odds for him to come through.
There is less risk in taking Geelong head-to-head than 1-39, so for the purposes of building the multi odds, we’re opting to take them at $1.45 to win outright.
Best Value Bet
Despite not recording 25+ disposals in his last four games, we’re taking the value odds for Zach Guthrie this week.
He’s a $4.60 chance to post 25+ disposals, and the 26-year-old should be stout in defence, and he should get a lot of ball coming his way.
We expect defence to shine more than offence, and spearheading the Geelong defence could be Guthrie, so take the odds.
