7 Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Ceolwulf (Best Each Way – $5.00)
He has been backed and beaten twice this preparation, but the best time to back him is after a couple of runs.
He didn’t get much luck fresh up, but he should get all favours from barrier three, and punters get generous each-way odds for this race.
Include him in picks as he’s a powerful finisher on his day.
(2) Light Infantry Man ($35.00)
A nice enough type on his day, but after showing little either side of a spell, he might need more time under his belt.
His best form comes in Perth in summer, so it could pay to wait until then.
(3) Private Eye ($9.00)
The eight-year-old has run well this season so far, including a win two back before placing at Randwick last time out.
The mile isn’t his pet distance, but if they go quick enough up front, he has the turn-of-foot needed to finish over the top.
(4) Royal Patronage ($6.50)
A proven fresh up performer, Royal Patronage is worth including. He won fresh up last prep before ultimately running in Hong Kong.
He finished 12th, but we have seen Mr Brightside flop at Sha Tin and come back with a Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes win, so he can do the same.
Include him in picks at each-way odds.
(5) Gringotts ($5.50)
Boasting 10 wins from 22 starts, Gringotts is never too far away from a win. He wasn’t far away when fifth behind Via Sistina, and this is easier.
He makes his own luck on the speed, and if the track is favouring front runners, he’s quick enough to kick away and put them to bed.
He’s another each-way chance in the 7 Stakes.
(6) Lindermann ($8.00)
It was good to see him get back to winning form last start, but he doesn’t often score back-to-back wins.
There is no letting up in this race, so he won’t get any peace, and we’re not thrilled with the $8 odds available from bookmakers.
Wait for something easier.
(7) Kovalica ($71.00)
A disappointing fresh up run and we can’t see that form improving anytime soon. Bookmakers have him at long odds for a reason.
(8) Militarize (Best Roughie – $31.00)
If there is an upset on the cards, Militarize could be the one. He doesn’t win often, but he’s strong enough to compete at this level.
We’re hoping his best form returns, and $31 is a good enough price to find out.
(9) Kadavar ($151.00)
Another runner needing more time from the Waller stable. Poor at his last three starts, and he might be needing longer.
(10) Half Yours ($61.00)
Solid enough form in Queensland, but he’s facing some of the best in Australia, and he’s not one of them.
(11) Fangirl (Best Bet – $2.70)
She is the best-backed runner in the field and with good reason. She is an eight-time winner at Randwick, and she hit the line well enough for fourth at Caulfield.
Coming back to this track is ideal, and her second-up form is good enough to win the 7 Stakes. We’re happy with the $2.70 odds, which could shorten on race day.
