Ascot horse racing tips

Race 1. (14:53) MCA Polytrack Plate (1000m)

#3 – Afireofgidgeecoals

Daniel Morton lines up Afireofgidgeecoals, who looked good when winning a recent trial at Belmont.

The two-year-old colt by Too Darn Hot won by 2.8 lengths in good fashion, and the booking of William Pike is a good sign.

Punters should expect shortening odds on race day.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (15:28) Wittens Irrigation & Design BM72 (1600m)

#2 – Fancy Red

Fancy Red is always a runner worth following after posting six wins and six placings from 14 starts.

The four-year-old mare by Sessions has a win and two placings at Ascot, and it’s another good ride for Pike on Saturday.

She only needs to find cover from a wide draw to go close.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 3. (16:04) Mrs Mac's 1MW (1000m)

#9 – Excess Baggage

Looking to post back-to-back wins is Excess Baggage, who showed a blistering turn-of-foot to score.

The three-year-old filly could have a bright future if that win is anything to go by, and we’re happy to stick with her.

54kg is ideal, so she could finish over the top of them again.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 4. (16:43) Schweppes Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m)

#2 – Wonderfully Made

Looking to post three wins on the bounce is Wonderfully Made, who won easily by 4.5 lengths at Belmont last time out.

That followed another impressive win at Ascot, so the daughter of Playing God has a bright future, and she should be the favourite.

54kg with Pike riding adds to her appeal.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 5. (17:19) Peters Investments 1MW (1800m)

#10 – Pressurised

It was good to see Pressurised turn his form around with a win at Belmont, and he looks set to kick on with it.

The three-year-old relished the rise in distance, and although dropping from 2100m isn’t ideal, it’s still a staying distance.

55kg is ideal, and he should give punters a good sight.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (17:59) Robert Harvey Memorial BM72 (1000m)

#3 – Haida Gwaii

Boasting seven wins from 13 starts and three wins this preparation is Haida Gwaii, who could keep her winning run going.

The four-year-old mare by Calyx loves racing at the track, and all seven wins have come over the short-course distance.

She is a leading winning chance once again.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 7. (18:36) Tabtouch Westspeed Platinum (1400m)

#2 – On Patrol

On Patrol didn’t fire at Pinjarra last time out, but punters should expect a much better run on Saturday.

The five-year-old son of War Chant has yet to win at Ascot from 22 attempts, which is some feat, but he ran second here two starts back.

He’s a chance to win if he gets luck from the draw.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 8. (19:12) Lex Piper Stakes (1600m)

#2 – The Crimson Pirate

The Crimson Pirate scored an overdue win at Ascot last start, and he is good enough to start stringing wins together.

He owns a win and six placings from eight starts, and he has yet to finish worse than second in three attempts at Ascot.

With 54kg on his back, we’re happy to back him again.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 9. (19:50) Drummond Golf BM66 (1400m)

#7 – Hubble’s Dragon

Hubble’s Dragon has made a good start to his career with two wins and two placings from five starts.

The three-year-old son of Deep Field won at Bunbury fresh up before placing at Pinjarra, which is a good enough form guide.

He adds to Pike’s good book of rides, so include in picks.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 10. (20:25) Quayclean BM66 (1200m)

#2 – Golden Vale

Punters should get each-way odds for Golden Vale, who owns three wins and seven placings from 16 starts.

The four-year-old mare by Churchill doesn’t usually run well second-up, but she gets weight off her back to help.

It’s an even field, and her odds should appeal.

Stake: 1 Unit
