Ballarat racing tips

Race 1. (11:55) Ian Larkin Memorial Maiden Hurdle (3250m)

#4 – Teewaters

Teewaters has been desperately close to breaking through for a maiden hurdle win, and we’re happy to give him another chance.

The seven-year-old owns five second placings from seven starts over the jumps, and facing a small field could be what he needs.

It’s not an easy field, but he deserves to go close.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (12:35) Ciaron Maher Racing Maiden Hurdle (3400m)

#9 – Forever Well

Forever Well didn’t fire at Colac last time out, but the six-year-old is better than that, so we’re backing her to win this race.

The Symon Wilde stable knows how to get their jumpers ready for these races, and it’s not an overly tough field on Sunday.

Look for a betting push on race day.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (13:15) Manhari Gotta Take Care Hurdle (3600m)

#1 – Hit the Road Jack

Hit the Road Jack is a quality hurdler after posting two wins and three placings from eight attempts.

The Wilde-trained nine-year-old was too good for them at Colac last time out, and a repeat of that effort is good enough to win this race.

We expect money to come for him on race day, especially being from this stable.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 4. (13:55) Ecycle Solutions JJ Houlahan Hurdle (3250m)

#5 – Enchanted Elle

Looking to make it three consecutive wins is Enchanted Elle, who won at Casterton and Colac this preparation.

The eight-year-old mare has made a terrific start to her jumping career, and although she’s facing some smart types, she’s good enough to win.

It could give the Wilde stable another big win on the jumping card.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 5. (14:35) Henry Dwyer Racing Steeplechase (3600m)

#6 – Saint Eustace

Looking to improve with two runs under his belt is Saint Eustace, who ran third at Colac last time out behind Enchanted Elle.

The nine-year-old has yet to win from six attempts over the jumps, but he has been close, and there isn’t much to beat in this field.

Punters should get value odds from bookmakers on Sunday.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (15.15) Ecycle Solutions Grand National Steeplechase (4500m)

#3 – Leaderboard

Leaderboard has had to settle for second at his last three starts, but he gets a significant pull in the weights with only 65kg on his back.

Stern Idol must carry 74kg, and although Stern Idol is the best horse in the race, carrying that weight over 4500m isn’t easy.

Leaderboard should be there to strike, so back him to win.

Stake: 2 Units
