Ballarat racing tips

Race 1. (13:30) Global Turf Maiden (1200m)

#3 – Lofty Thoughts @ $2.15

Lofty Thoughts ran third on debut at Geelong before struggling at Caulfield, so dropping in class should see its best form return.

The two-year-old colt by Snitzel was no match for Field of Play, and the change in stable could see his turn take a turn for the better.

Money has come for him, so take the $2.15 and include him in multis.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (14:00) Manhari Maiden (1500m)

#1 – Ex Machina @ $4.80

Ex Machina is working his way towards a win after posting three placings from four starts this preparation.

The four-year-old son of Shalaa owns four placings from eight starts overall, and getting barrier two adds to his chances of winning.

Punters get each-way odds, so take the current price.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (14:30) McGrath Ballarat Maiden (1000m)

#2 – Renege @ $3.30

Punters are getting a tad frustrated with Renege, who keeps running well, but keeps being well-backed without winning.

He ran well at Ballarat last week, and being on the quick back up should only help his chances of breaking maidens.

This is his best chance, so take the $3.30 odds.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (15:00) Porter Plant BM70 (1000m)

#7 – Pick ‘N’ Mix @ $2.00

Money has come for Pick ‘N’ Mix, who won at Cranbourne and Geelong during her first preparation.

The three-year-old filly by Turn Me Loose won by 1.8 lengths over Egerton on debut before getting the better of Stella Mofeed last start.

It’s good form, hence the odds-on quote.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 5. (15:30) Hygain Winners Choice BM58 (1100m)

#2 – Fortyfour Magnum @ $9.00

Value is with Fortyfour Magnum, who wasn’t all that far away when fourth at Hamilton last time out.

The Lindsay Smith-trained filly showed good speed when winning at Kilmore two back, and anything close to that run would be good enough.

Barrier 15 isn’t ideal, but the odds are too good to pass up.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (16:00) Fast Form BM58 (1200m)

#9 – Attaboom @ $6.00

Attaboom is better for two runs back from a spell, including a second placing at this track last time out.

The four-year-old son of Spirit of Boom is having his 17th start at Ballarat synthetic, and with nine placings to this name, he’s due to break through.

The odds are worth including as a value bet.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (16:30) Hygain Winners Choice BM58 (1500m)

#7 – Simply Outrageous @ $2.40

Seeking back-to-back wins is Simply Outrageous, who won by a half-length as a $1.90 chance last time out.

The three-year-old daughter of Xtravagant looks to have plenty of ability for racing at this level, and money has come for her opening odds.

Barrier 16 hurts, but she goes close with cover.

Stake: 1.5 Units
