Ballarat Synthetic racing tips

Race 1. (13:30) Porter Plant Maiden (1100m)

#6 – Popthebubbly @ $2.70

Popthebubbly has looked solid at the jumpouts, and although she was a cheap purchase, she looks to have a good speed.

The three-year-old filly by Nicconi opened at $6 and has shortened into $2.70, which is a solid betting push for a debutante.

It could pay to follow any positive betting moves.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (14:00) Hertz Maiden (1000m)

#10 – Secret Glory @ $2.40

Ciaron Maher lines up the former Cummings-trained runner, who didn’t fire at Pakenham and Flemington last preparation.

The three-year-old filly by Blue Point gets in with only 55kg on her back, and she’s good enough to handle this level of opposition.

Take the odds before money comes for her on race day.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 3. (14:30) Vale Janet Bullas BM64 (1000m)

#1 – Frose @ $6.00

Looking for three wins from her last five starts is Frose, who is an eight-time winner overall.

The six-year-old daughter of Frosted is a four-time winner at Ballarat Synthetic, so she’s a track specialist with plenty of upside.

Getting 3kg off her back from the inside draw adds to her appeal.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (15:00) Global Turf Maiden (1200m)

#8 – She’s Speedy @ $2.90

Boasting five placings from six starts is She’s Speedy, who finished second last time out at Ballarat.

The four-year-old mare by Magnus doesn’t need much luck off the inside draw, and that’s the place to be on synthetic tracks.

The $2.90 odds are worth including in horse racing multis.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 5. (15:30) Manhari Maiden (1400m)

#5 – Ziggy Plays Guitar @ $3.20

There was a lot of money for Ziggy Plays Guitar last start at Ballarat, and although he finished only third, it was a solid effort in defeat.

The four-year-old son of Written By should be well-backed on race day again, and the maiden win isn’t far away.

We’re happy with the $3.20 odds available, which is a good price from bookmakers.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 6. (16:00) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 (1400m)

#1 – Our Couver @ $5.50

Punters get each-way odds for Our Couver, who comes off disappointing runs at Flemington this preparation.

The five-year-old son of Vancouver is much better than those two runs reflect, and his form last preparation was much better.

Getting 3kg off his back is enough to take him close at this level.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (16:30) Get on Extra BM58 (1200m)

#3 – Missile Girl @ $4.00

Value odds are with Missile Girl, who capped off consistent form with a win at Ballarat Synthetic.

The five-year-old mare by Smart Missile is much better than a one-time winner, but now that the penny has dropped, she could kick on with it.

Barrier two is ideal, and she’s good enough to win again.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 8. (17:00) Hygain Winners Choice BM58 (1500m)

#1 – Shooter McGavin @ $4.60

Shooter McGavin was beaten by an impressive Taung last start, but it was still a good effort from the favourite.

The five-year-old son of Shooting to Win is a four-time winner overall, and he doesn’t need to improve to put this field away.

Getting 1.5kg off his back should be enough to take him close.

Stake: 2 Units
